Tyler Bray discussion (merged)

If Simms somehow manages to play worse against Florida than he did against Oregon I'll be all for it.

ok yeah simms made a mistake by throwing the pick 6 but our wide outs droped passes too so no simms was not comfertable at all the sec half and that means alot

if simms doesn't do well enough to get us a W against Flordia , i think bray might start the UAB game. especially if simms throws more pick 6's.

Other than the Pick-6, how many tackles did Simms miss last night? I think it was only 1 all night.

48 points isn't going to get it done, 13 points isn't going to get it done. it was a team loss and I have to agree with GoVolsxtra.com who rated our QB play a B-. He managed the game well, threw 1 bad ball, stared down some receivers, but was our best option at this point in the year.

Give it a rest, Simms is with us until at least the Alabama game.

1 bad ball? 1interception but many bad passes and reads.

Simms did NOT do well for his first big game...He was horrible..Pick 6 that people would have skewered Crompton /Ainge for and about 4 jumpball completions...

Guys...He a JUNIOR...

No bashing here, but down 14 and losing momentum fast that mght have been the time to showcase Bray for a few snaps..

We'll see..

I have seen nothing from Bray that would make me any more confident in our offense to go downfield. Face it, we just aren't that good on offense and will have to run the ball well to win football games. We need a dual threat guy so defenses cant just stack the box and come after us.

he MISSED people, but so does Peyton, Brady, Brees.... That wasn't my question

HOW MANY TACKLES DID SIMMS MISS LAST NIGHT??

please?? ANYBODY??

I think the answer is 1.

Let's not get desperate and try for quick fixes. This team needs to develop consistency and rhythm. It won't be pretty to watch for the next few games, but should pay off later in the season. Give the coaches and players some time.

We would have ended up 72-14 with Bray in last night. Simms only did a couple of things that hurt, other than that, the play calling sucked the life out of us IMO.

If they are truly moving back to Cali. I'm guessing Tyler is out the door soon if not starting. I'm not saying I think that is the right move. I think Simms did what he could with the gameplan. I think Dooley has to really evaluate over the next little bit if Chaney can do what needs to be done to make this team successful as far as play calls. I saw no adjustment to what was happening as far as plays being called on the field. That being said, I think bray would have got destroyed last night as quick or quicker than Simms. It is also very evident that we are extremely thin just as we have been being told. Our guys were obviously checked out at halftime.

We lose one game and "the backup QB is our guy" geniuses start cackling. Bray will eventually be better, but Oregon probably would have chewed him up and spit him out tonight. I will defer to our coaching staff's evaluations instead of these armchair QBs.

his dad sounds like a real shooting the bull kind of guy. heck if bray is so rattled he can't even remember to put his mouth piece in for 2 plays in a row something is wrong.

Simms did hold the ball to long on several throws. He may have eyed the receivers a little too much. But.... It was his second start in an orange jersey!!!! further more his first start against a good defense. I felt like he made a couple really good throws, showed some good arm strength. I think he will learn from his mistakes and we will be competitive in most of our games. Overall it is a team loss. I think Matt will do a fine job. Bray is not ready to play yet. With that said lets give the Gators our best shot!!! GO VOLS!

I agree, Bray will start at some point this year. I'm not sure he is ready though. Simms is holding the ball waaaaay too long. By the time he throws to an open man the defense has already caught up. If Simms doesn't improve Bray will get his chance. I just hope he is ready by then.

Guys relax with the talent level we have Simms will be just fine this year, Bray needs to learn the play book and by the end of the season he should beable to hands down take control, But until he puts that foot forward Simms is the best we have and RELAX ,I want our team to suceed just as all of you but, lets save Bray and use our JR QB Transfer and let our Freshman players mature some more..............But Simms does have a lot of bad habits that reappear when he's pressured.......Holding the ball to long and standing still in the pocket.

Please Dooley, start Bray next game. Simms is not going to get it done. Bray is the future. Give him a chance; he has much, much more upside than Simms. I will be very disappointed if Dooley doesn't give Bray the nod next week.

Right because if there's a QB change the OL will suddenly be experienced, RB's won't miss blitzes, WR's will miraculously have maturity and skills they don't know have, and opposing D's will be worse.

Get real. The thing that cost UT last night WAS a lack of a good passing game to balance the run game and keep the Ducks honest. But the only guys who ran good patterns were Z and Moore... and they both made critical mistakes too.

The one thing I want to see is TE's involved in the passing game but that has to be by coaches' design.

BRAY IS NOT READY. It will only get worse if you throw him in there befor the rest of the team comes along.

Agreed!

Maybe I'm just naive enough to believe that the coaching staff actually knows more about who the better quarterback is than the posters on Volnation. If Bray were the better option, he'd be the starter. I don't think he's mentally or physically ready, and I understand the possibility that the coaching staff is concerned about destroying his confidence by throwing him to the SEC wolves too soon.

Nope, you're wrong. I'm pretty sure LawVol is the resident expert on this subject. That's why he makes millions of dollars a year to evaluate talent and .......oh wait..... no he doesn't. Sorry, you're right.
