Ty Simpson?

Heupel and Simpson’s dad don’t like each other, yall remember in 2023 when we played UT Martin and Heup ran it up on his dad and ran a trick play late in the game. Yea there is no chance in hell that Ty comes here.

It’s silly to think that a starting SEC QB wouldn’t be a take for us if the money makes sense.

Also, he and his father were set to join UT, his dad as a coach, under Pruitt. Pruitt called his dad and told him something was going down and that’s when they bailed for Bama. It was the debacle that was the end of the CJP era that led to him going to Bama. Now maybe he would’ve ended up there anyway, but that’s the story Ty and his dad tell.

If Heupel can improve Ty’s draft status next year you might see Daddy Simpson washing Heupel’s feet.

Just like with Nico, the father nuked his career. Not saying Simpson's career is nuked, but the kid needs to do what he wants. This is HIS career not dads. He should go where he wants and be happy.

You hit the nail on the head in that comparison. Ty would’ve came to Tennessee if not for his dad. He grew up a Vol fan

Aguilar isn’t mobile either. We don’t need a mobile QB. We need an accurate QB who can make quick decisions and read defenses. That’s Simpson.
I think that a true dual threat QB under CJH would be the move. Our Offense is really good considering the talent and drama. But our offense sputters against top 20 teams. A mobile QB would pick up those 1st downs. They would keep drives alive. Pair that with a revitalized D, and we become a top 5 team.

I do. I live a hr away from Westview high School. His dad coaches at UT Martin. The whole family turned their back on Tennessee. I got no time for traitors!!! There you go
I would only recruit 15-20 high school players. The portal is the quickest way to improve the team

So are portal players not quitters and traitors to their team now? And traitors from other states have been TN’s lifeblood for, well, forever.

We sure do love non-native traitors.

Always depressing to read these threads and see so many people clamoring for other people's rejects lol.

Arguing Bamas trash could be Tennessee's treasure is kinda weird but whatever.

Heupel really needs to decide if he is gonna develop a QB or just grab a starter from the portal each year. I don't care what we do, but we can't do both.

Personally, I say we let GMac and Brandon battle it out in the spring and whoever wins wins. Let them take their lumps next year when we have a brutal schedule and then see what happens afterwards

2025 was a waste. There is no excuse for Joey Aguilar to ever take another meaningful snap after the Oklahoma game. Once playoff contention was out, we needed to be looking to the future. Not wasting our time trying to preserve our one year rentals streak of 200 yard games.
Mendoza came from Cal to Indiana
Beck came from GA to Miami
Moore came from UCLA to Oregon

Chambliss transferred from some little school to Ole Miss, so that was an actual move up.

Those guys still have games left to play so "QB development" from scratch isn't essential to having a successful program.

Would really be an incredible opportunity for him. This offense ,receivers, coaching, home state. He would be next years Arch Manning. The marquee name nationally all eyes on him. Imagine if he won a Hesiman at Tennessee? He’d not have to pay for a beer or a meal in the state for the rest of his life. Really unique but ideal situation. I like to bet and I’d definitely not bet on it unless given like 20-1 or more

Saban & Dabo got together & told the Simpson family they were both moving on during Summer of ‘21 if Ty didn’t commit. They didn’t want him to see Heupel’s offense. The Simpsons caved to the pressure & who could blame them. Both coaches had multiple rings on their finger.
And our program was not very stable at the time, nothing like it is now. I live very close and they are highly respected people.

He’d be the perfect “fill piece” for Tennessee. Plus he could clean his “sins” playing for Bama.
Fans can think that way if they wanna, but players these days do not. College football used to be an elite fraternity, with chapters at universities throughout the country. All players were brothers. These days it is literally an elite profession. Successful individuals do not let their emotions make business decisions.
