'20 TX QB Haynes King (TAMU Commit)

If Bass starts a Bass PODcast, I'll make sure to call in with the Gruden updates.

I'm perfectly fine with HB being the only elite QB this cycle but still can't stand the thought of losing.
Especially if King ends up being elite at another SEC school. Wish it were a TN/TX battle.

"I think of those four, I think Texas A&M and Tennessee are the two and I’ve thought that for a couple of weeks now. I haven’t made a (Crystal Ball) prediction yet, which I don’t like, but it’s a reflection of how close this is," noted Brooks. "I’ve kind of been slightly leaning towards A&M because of the proximity. His dad is the head coach at Longview. Friday night football in the state of Texas, especially when you’re the 6A Division II defending state champions, you have a pretty big obligation to your own football program, from his dad’s standpoint. A&M’s proximity is a major factor in their favor. It’s a lot easier to get to an 11 AM or 2:30 kickoff in College Station. I think it’s 193 miles from Longview High School, so it’s about 3, 3.5 hours on some backroads. Whereas Tennessee is a long way away. Knoxville is in a different time zone. Tennessee offered in late January and they have been all over him ever since. I think the relationships are in Tennessee’s favor.”

"If I had to make a pick, I would say I’ve been leaning A&M but the way it’s drawn out-I thought he might’ve done it over the weekend- but we’re at Wednesday and the Elite 11 is starting on Friday. Now that it’s been drawn out this far, it feels like it might be trending behind the scenes to Tennessee a little bit. Parents usually want to steer their kid to a certain school in a lot of cases. Both of his parents, I get the feeling are wanting him to make the decision himself. I’m sure they have their preferences, but from what I have picked up they’ve really let him steer the boat himself, which I think is commendable and respectable on their part.”

“As far as his impact, I was talking to a really good source just yesterday who is convinced he’s an NFL quarterback. I tend to agree with that," said Brooks. "His dad was a FCS All-American offensive lineman at Northwestern State. When you see 6’2.5”, 185, this is a big-handed, long-armed kid who is probably going to get to the 220 range pretty easily in a college strength and conditioning program. I think he’s got the full athletic profile- football, basketball, runs the 400, 4 by 400 relay, district champion in the discus, a 4.5 flat verified 40-yard dash, 4.08 shuttle. Then you add on almost 4,000 passing yards and almost 700 rushing yards and a 16-0 Texas state championship at the big school level, it’s the complete profile you want. In addition to being a coach’s kid and growing up around the game like he did.

- Gabe Brooks last night

I’ve felt like it was TN for the last few weeks. That was based off my conversations but it got oddly quiet the last few days leading up to Wednesday’s supposed decision so that’s when I thought things were going south. Now that we are past the decision day, I’m leaning to it favoring TN because I think where the gut lies for Haynes. He just has something tugging at him for this to be a total toss up.

You don't think Bailey has the it factor?
He’s not anywhere close to being the athlete King is. He also plays for a more talented team yet didn’t win a state championship. He’s good but I’ve seen a lot of guys like him (bigger QBs with good arms but limited mobility) go to Stanford and just be ok.

Senior year might be different for him but we’ll have to wait to see on that. I wasn’t a fan of Maurer at first but he took a huge step from his junior to senior year.

I remember hearing this same argument for Stewart over Manning.

Wasn’t Peyton the no.1 recruit though? Each situation is different. Like in a debate of Fields v Lawrence I was always with Lawrence. In that instance mobility doesn’t matter because TL is such a good passer.

Difference in this Bailey vs king situation is that bailey isn’t nearly that level passer. Stats also aren’t close and Bailey hasn’t won in high school like Lawrence, manning or king. He’s good not great. King looks like he might be great so I’m hoping we get him.

I don’t know what you’ve been looking at...or how clean you were when you were looking.

Josh Booty was the top recruit.

Trevor is a generational talent who had a great coach, above average skill players and played at a lower classification. Bailey has benefited from some outstanding skill players, but is also getting it done against a lot better competition. Check out Baileys game against N Gwinnett when he was a sophomore facing a D with 3 SEC caliber defensive backs.

“Wiltfong on Haynes King: "Talked to a source regarding Haynes King that believes Tennessee is winning this recruitment in every department outside of distance from home. I've mentioned in the past if the Vols were closer to home I thought this would be done. Perhaps they win it anyway.”

It's only a 2 and 1/2 hr flight to Dallas.
