BIG number especially with Tillman and Small health up in the air. It’s exciting but dang we aren’t playing South Carolina or something. Florida still has the size and athleticism to make this a very interesting game.

I’m with you, but I’m trying to hold back a little. I’ve seen this movie before, and the sequels. I won’t be comfortable until the clock hits all 0’s in the fourth quarter.
I agree. We’ve had better teams than them in the past and between us choking and them pulling unbelievable plays out of their azz, we have found multiple ways to lose. But I’m hopeful that CJH can get them to ignore all the past screw ups and focus on their game plan. This can be the next thing we can all be pleasantly surprised about. He can get the team to play to its potential.

Everything about Heupel is quiet, not much fanfare, just get to work and do your job. This week is different w/ all the hoopla of Gameday, this massive confidence, bordering on arrogance we as a fan base have towards this game is unsettling to me. It’s still Florida, they still have good players. They have a first year head coach, I was at Ron Zook’s first UT game and they beat our ass in a monsoon. Ron Zook did. The table is set for us and that makes me more uncomfortable than if we were 3 or point favorites.
I want this game. We need this game. We should win this game. This is the next step to getting to where we want to go, and that is why I am the way I am right now.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. Danny White and Huepel walked into a disaster. Coming off a 3-7 season and players leaving left and right. We legitimately had one of the worst/unproven rosters of any power 5 program. To be 17 months in and ranked 11th in the country with one of the best offenses in college football is a miracle. It's impressive. I wasnt a big fan of the Huepel hire, I thought White went with what he was comfortable with. I was wrong. Huepel is a damn good coach who seems to really appreciate the fan base. He seemed choked up talking about the fan turnout for the Akron game and vol walk. We have the right guys in place, who are good coaches and good people. Don't forget how bad we were just a few years ago and really appreciate what this staff has done.
My thoughts exactly. Even if Heupel doesn’t get us to that next level he’s at least going to have us very stable culturally and he’s replenishing talent. I think he can get us to that next level though and for once we’re an innovative team in terms of scheme. For so long we were behind everyone offensively and now it seems like we’re on the forefront of a new wave of offense.

Players seem to love being in the building now and want to run through a wall for him. I see too many people downplaying our PITT road win. My takeaway is… yes we played terrible in the second half and we should’ve steam rolled them late. However, most road games against good opponents get ugly and we still won albeit ugly. We haven’t won an ugly game in forever and that’s a culture win. Any other year in the past 12 years our team folds and loses, but that game our defense tightened up and then the offense clutched in OT. I know Heupel was so happy for that reason. He saw us turn the corner mentally.

After reading all of this and many other posts in this thread, can we remember these things IF our Vols come out on the losing end this Saturday?
Can we not immediately turn to venom and start firing coaches and dogging players? Can we remember that this is going to take a while to rebuild from the trash heap that we were and maybe we are running just a little ahead of schedule?
Can we remember that we now have a coach who can scheme, brings a new mentality and has built a culture that can lead to and sustain a winning program?
Or...
Should I just go ahead and get my pitchfork and mattress ready?

Lunch money on FL against that spread. Looking at the O/U, feels like around a 35-28 VOL Victory to me. Let's start a long winning streak against them lizards!

Suckers bet. 16 out of 17 is all you need to know. We will find a new way to blow this game like we always do. Let's move on and try to figure out how to beat LSU. We do this to ourselves every freakin year. This UF team is much better than the one we lost to last year by dbl digits. Vol fans need to get their heads right and don't get too far out ahead of your skis. C'mon folks.

We need to pump the brakes a little bit here. I believe the Vols are headed in the right direction and think that our coach is the man for the job. However, this team has still not beat a quality opponent. I don't buy that Pitt is a top 25 team. They struggled against Virginia Tech (who lost to Kansas) and didn't pull away from Western Michigan until the fourth quarter. The game with Florida hinges on which quarterback makes the most plays. If the "Utah" Richardson shows up, we could be in trouble. LSU looked good in the second half against Miss. St. and then we have Alabama. 4-2 or 3-3 seems likely to me.

For me personally Huepel has earned the benefit of the doubt. If we lose to Florida I will still be 100% behind him. Seeing where he has brought us in such a short amount of time, he has earned it. Now if the wheels come off and we go 6-6 that's a different story. I can see the player development. Guys like Tillman, Hyatt, Wright, Beasley, Flowers, etc. We have a good staff. Hooker was a VT castoff and now a Heisman contender and Milton is 10x the QB he was last year. These players are getting better, we wont win every game this year and it would suck to lose to Florida, but personally I can see the improvements so Im still all in.

Hopefully Florida is falling into the abyss that Tennessee was in from 2008-2020
FSU, Miami, and mainly Tennessee beating them a couple of times is critical for them to bottom out. If they can keep improving and Florida has another lame-duck coach, they might be in for a hard rebuild both on and off the field. That brand is not what it was 15 years ago.

I think FSU will win 8-9 games this season and will close out the regular season beating Florida in Tallahassee.

I don't gamble. Haven't in years. But it is foolish to ever gamble on an event or game when you have an emotional stake. The only way you do that is if you are betting on yourself- poker, pool, et al.

I’ve never gambled, but if I did, I’d put $20 on UF cuz there’s no way God would let me ever win a bet!!

Does anyone remember UF Quarterbacks that were struggling going into this game having Heisman worthy performances? I love my Vols, but history cannot be ignored. They seem to play way above their abilities against us. I refuse to be blind and believe all is well. We cannot cover a quick slant route and the big men up front do not dominate the line of scrimmage on either side. We are improving and a better team. Until we beat the iguanas three years in a row, be cautious. I do not like the Gators one bit, but we have to prove we can do it. Watch for AR to have a career game like so many others. It should be a great game for us. We need the breaks to go our way. Go Vols.

Seems like a few schools in the SEC are. Auburn and Florida both with their constant coach changes. It’s not good overall to keep firing and hiring, but I wanted the last few gone from here. I guess that’s why I try not to get hyped up about new coaches because everyone seems to talk themselves into believing they could work, only for the fall.
I’m not talking bad about coach hype, but if there are repetitive bad decisions, esp over the course of multiple games/or the season, I won’t be one of those making excuses for him. So far so good. Just needs to keep recruiting heavy on defense, because in his system the defensive players are on the field the majority of time. Watched Butch and Jeremy have terrible offenses go 3 and out constantly, only for the defense to be on the field all game long. This followed by fans blaming the defense for failing around 3-4 quarter from exhaustion, instead of calling out the coach because that’s commiting a sacred sin around here.

First off, everyone like to make the VOL fans out to be a group that wants to fire anyone over one, or a few loses. In reality there’s 3 groups. Group 1 is the group that on year 3-4 of a coach is still saying what you are. That it’s going to take time, etc. Group 2 is the group not necessarily saying to fire the coach, but also point out the concerns. This group get clustered into the negavols for no reason. Then there’s Group 3 that has watched the same piss poor coach for 3-4 years do the same bone headed screwups, and seemingly not even try to address it, or learn from their mistakes. This group is the group that’s justified in reality, but to most here it’s here equivalent of peeing in holy water, you are going to hell.

I highly doubt anyone will say he needs to be fired if they don’t win Saturday. There would be some that voice their concerns, and then the masses here will attack them as if they just slapped their daughters ass. It’s kind of ridiculous how people misconstrue thing really. That’s the embarrassing thing about our fans.

It’s a win win to put your money on Florida. If Florida covers or wins well the loss will be soothed with a paycheck. Be nice if tenn won by like 3 tho lol
But on the other hand if Tennessee covers we just blew out Florida and I don’t care that I lost money.
Gotta go with florida +10.5 on this one.

That's my feeling as I hit the button with the last of my money in the slots. But one day, he won't be looking, and that machine will line up.
