I agree this team still has the Butchstank on ‘em. Gonna take a while. I’m starting to face the reality that we may be looking at a 3 year turn instead of 2 as I was hoping.
UTEP QB completed 4 passes for 32 yards in H1. That is terrible.
That long pass to Palmer in Q2 was the best throw JG has ever made. It was perfectly executed.
JG tries, he really does. Unfortunately, it’s probably time for us to admit that while he’s a nice QB and good teammate, he’s not the type of QB/leader that can take charge of a team and a drive when needed. He’s just not a difference maker elite QB like the top teams have (UA, GA, AU, WA, etc.). We have a ceiling with him that is good but not great. If the season goes bad during the gauntlet that is coming up, we may find ourselves moving on to Shrout late in the season to see what we have there.
ETA: Tyson Helton has a lot of growing to do. Meantime, our RBs are elite game changers i the OL penalties would stop negatively affecting the run game.
The imposing of will is something that comes with time. We don't yet have the ability to impose our will on anybody. You just can't go straight from having lost all of your SEC games to having the Swagger factor that is required by your expectations. We refuse to impose our will. That's on the coach in my opinion.
Well we won by more points than last year versus umass. So I guess there’s a little improvement. Defense looks some better but ol just sucks. We know there are many things UT needs to do better to get ready for the SEC schedule. If you were to list two things, what would be at the top of your list?
For me:
1)I would like to see 600 yards of offense. Many of the teams in the SEC have shown the ability to get on the scoreboard quick. Tennessee has struggled to show an explosive offense over the last 14 games. If you get 600 yards you are going to have several explosive plays.
2) 1 sack for every 6 UTEP passes. If UT is going to show some promise to get to the QB they are going to have to start this game. UTEP has given up 7 sacks in 45 pass attempts. 1 in every 6 pass attempts in two blowout losses.
Go Vols!
Just amazing to me, that anybody can watch this team play right now....with all the awful play at the line of scrimmage, all the mistakes/penalties, lack of intensity, just soft play, with all the mistakes we made today....and decide to comment on the guy who’s completing 72% of his passes with no turnovers, who has a 162 passer rating, who was about the only guy who showed any emotion or leadership today, like he’s the problem. Dude was 12-16 with a 184 qb rating today, and it’s time to admit that HE’S the problem?
