I have two questions from the LSU game. They may have been asked and answered somewhere but looking through other threads I couldn't locate them.

1. Why was a flag not thrown on the "academic player of the week" center from LSU? Just as the final play was over he threw his helmet to the ground. But the game was not over since the flag had been thrown. Should LSU's last play have been from the 15 yard line?

2. Why did LSU not kick the extra point? It was a crazy enough game already so it wouldn't have been out of the realm of possibility to block it and return for two points and a tie. Since the last play was untimed and all extra points are untimed, I can see no reason to not have the PAT.

#2 is a very valid question. Usually if a game is out of reach, then you can have a walk-off touchdown.

I thought LSU was in an illegal formation as well. Still trying to move on..

Regarding ur second question, do u not think lsu would have just went "for 2" and just kneeled the ball?

Why would LSU even bother risking a kick? If required to take the field for the attempt, they'd just snap it and take a knee.

I think that CDD is going to ask for some type of explanation on several calls that were, or were not made during the last few minutes of the game.

This is Les Miles. The same guy that bungled the last 30 seconds of the game to nearly snatch defeat from victory. I doubt he would have done the "smart" thing on the PAT.

Furthermore, they could have fumbled the snap on the "go for 2" play. LSU couldn't wait to turn it over all game.

I'm stunned a Vandy fan wouldn't know the rule. And seriously mess it up at that - using 1pt and safety? Really?

Pretty sure the Vandy fan is correct.

If the offense scores, it's 2. If the D scores, it's 1.

Rule 8. Sec 1. Art. 1
Successful Try:

Touchdown — 2 Points

Field Goal or Safety — 1 Point

I bolded the important part for you. If the defense returns an Unsuccessful Attempt to their endzone they are awarded 2 points.

Apparently a blocked kick can only be returned for 1 point. A fumble/interception returned on a 2 point attempt can be returned for 2 points.

So Les Miles going for two and fumbling the snap would have been our only chance to tie on the PAT.

Apologies to Vandy fan. Your team sucks, but you were somewhat right on the rule.

How could a safety occur on a successful PAT?

technically it could occur I guess (int and run out of the endzone, tackled in the endzone while trying to advance the ball on D) but don't think I've ever heard of one
