Two Deep Depth Chart Released

As far as the discussion on Butch being ultimately responsible, I would think we all understand that and shouldn't have to repeat it several times in the same post to make it clear. But it seems if you offer anything other than that, it's not "discussing", it's making excuses.

Yeah, that's one of the weirdest things.

And it all ends with Butch...or don't you know that? :aggressive:

I didn't call YOU angry, I simply asked a question.
But then again, that's exactly what I did last time, ask you a question. And I believe you asked me what my problem was and suggested I jump into things that aren't my business.
Maybe I am doing this whole internet forum thing wrong but I thought if you make a public comment and people aren't sure what you mean, they could ask.

I'm basing Jones replacing coaches who have underperformed off of history and the limit that UT has always set for what they will pay each year. Doesn't seem that out of line giving you all are discussing who to blame for the poor performance of MLB's in 2017 games that haven't been played yet.

I didn't say you called me angry, simply said I didn't know what you meant by the comment, especially in relation to what I posted. At no point did I reference a question I asked of you a week or two ago, fully in the moment. Looks like we're at an impasse here, no worries.

As far as replacing coaches, I was asking specifically about Thig. I thought Butch did a nice job turning over a large part of the staff, especially amid reports that there was some disharmony among coaches last year and how we likely saw some of that manifest itself on the field last year. Could've easily replaced Thig last season given the state of the linebacking corps then, looks like he could do it right now for the same reason, yet there's been no talk of letting Thig go and here he remains still coaching the position....and any talk about him being replaced is pure speculation.

Our linebacker situation is "not good", "in trouble", "not up to snuff" or, if you choose, "in chaos" at the moment because one player among 12 is injured and out for the year, and someone/a coach has to be held to account....first the LB coach, and then since it is a recurring issue in year 5, the head coach imo.

I know you were responding to Charger, KB, so I'm sorry to butt in...

...but this is the part I wonder about. I mean, we know it will hurt to lose Kirkland, he's a wonderful player and hugely talented. Can't lose him without some level of incremental loss in the position group.

But how much of a loss? Are we accurately described by one of your phrases? Are we in chaos? Are we in trouble?

I think it's too early to tell. We could sure run down the list of players and talk about how they didn't perform to a level we'd want in 2016 or before. But we haven't seen our LB corps yet in 2017.

I'm willing to hold this question in abeyance until the first few games are played. See what we've got, see how it looks.

p.s. Just to help frame the conversation, I'm still counting six serviceable (afawk) LBs healthy and available: Sapp, Bates, McDowell, Bituli, Berry, and Jumper. And that's without reaching into the Freshman ranks for Ignont or one of the others. Current best info (from LWS) says the lineup Monday will be S-Jumper, M-Bates, W-McDowell.

No, I agree, there has been no talk about Thig. As I stated, I'm going 100% off history.
Jancek, Martinez, Mahoney and even the S&C coach. I think that's enough of a simple size to show that Butch sees the same problems we do and is more than willing to make changes.

The changes always come either at the end of contracts or when we're only making 1 change maybe 2. UT will only fork out so much money each year and that's understandable to a degree.

I said from the beginning that I was basing this on history and nothing more. "Rectifying" was in reference to changes he's already made to problem areas. If the linebackers fail, I expect to see change. If they perform good to very good, then I doubt we will see one.

The tricky part with Thig is several of the linebackers seem underdeveloped but those like JRM and Kirkland have performed well. And while we shouldn't have to depend on the walk on every year, Jumper has performed well CONSIDERING he's a walk-on. Some mixed results is probably why Martinez/Mahoney went before Thig.

Personally I don't think Thigpen is a good linebackers coach but I can see the case for others going before him.

You should have just called him angry and been done with it. It's obvious. I remember when he used to be rational a good 70% of the time. She-it...and that's when I knew he believed in voodoo.

I'm kidding.
