how do they write out Charlie and write in a new character without ruining the show. Surely they aren't just going to start calling Hugh Grant Charlie and act like nothing happened?

I never saw much of the show but as I understand it Spin City did a decent switch out of MJ Fox with...of all people...Sheen as the lead character.

Everything so far says it's not going to happen. But they are swinging for the fences.

I wouldn't call Hugh Grant swinging for the fences. If this turns out to happen, the words EPIC FAIL come to mind. I have probably seen every episode and I just don't see how he can add anything to the show, whether taking over the Charlie Harper character or being introduced as a new character.

I have seen them also. I am not advocating anyone replacing Sheen, I don't think it possible. But with this show being a very, very large cash cow for CBS and everyone involved they will try on some level. Now that being said I am waiting to see how the court case plays out. If it is allowed to be played out in public. Look for a very quick settlement with sheen and return to the show. Even if this doesn't happen I can still see him returning. As I constantly say, remember this is Hollywood.

The son is grown up now, right? Add John Bobbit. The show title would take on a whole new meaning, and you'd have fresh material.

I should move to hollywood.

That's a different situation. In the case of Spin City, they just had to fill the role of a political staffer. On Two and a Half Men, they would be trying to either introduce a new character or have Charlie suddenly become British. Finding a way to squeeze him into the family would probably be the only way to make it work. Unless Hugh Grant's character buys the house and somehow Alan and Jake find a way to stick around. Better yet, they could let the show just go away.
