Everyone brings up turning down UCLA and how theyre a blue blood, but really Wooden made UCLA and they have not lit the world on fire since, as far as championships and Final Fours that "blue bloods" consistently appear in. It also doesnt look likely that another high profile job comes open in the next 2-3 years,at least that ive read about. Not to mention that just maybe Smart isnt a west coast guy. Maybe he dislikes earth quakes and 10 lane traffic jams. Just speculating here but i dont see the shut it down no way he comes here argument holding water.

I think he means Chris Peterson from Boise in football turning down every major job then taking the Washington job. It is a fair comparison.

Chris Peterson was never going to leave the NW...he just moved a few hundred miles
to a bigger school and paycheck and still lives in basically the same area... Family and lifestyle were more important to him than getting the big job...

To the posters point though. VCU to Tennessee is fairly close in proximity.
