Surely this will not end up well. They argue that this will promote "healthy conversation", but it seems to me like it is just going to end up being used to lower visibility of popular tweets without traceability. I can't help but think that this will be used to suppress conservative ideas since that's been their proclivity to this point. Now they can do it in secret.
Am I missing something? Why was it bad to be able to see which posts were most 'popular' or which ones were getting 'ratioed'?

Thanks to @Velo Vol for the update.CORRECTION (March 13, 2019, 3:30 p.m. ET): An earlier version of this article misstated the changes that Twitter is testing in a prototype app. Twitter is testing putting engagement counts on replies behind a user tap, not removing the engagement counts for tweets.
