I remember thinking we were going to play UCLA and I wanted K State for some pay back before both lost the last weekend. What a game for the Vols.

Watched it that night. Woke up at 4am and watched it again on tape before I started my day. Read the newspaper story about 20 times. Had a banjo version of Rocky Top I played on my computer at work all day on a loop. Amazingly no one came into my office to kill me.

Florida State alum in my office came by, offered congrats, and said Tennessee was simply the better team. No excuses and no whinning. Back when sportsmanship still existed.

What did KState do to make you want to give them payback?

At least you got one mate!! I was only 12 when that happened and sadly didn’t care about football back then. I would be 100 percent satisfied if we got just 1 natty in my lifetime, sadly I highly doubt that will happen anymore.

I was in my garage putting shelves up to give more storage space throughout. The saw, ladder, drill, and hammer kept me occupied right up till kickoff. My stomach was in knots. If I'd been playing QB that night my stats woulda been 0-20, 4ints, 4 fumbles, and 10 delay of games. Glad we had Tee.

I remember a few things from that game that are everlasting memories.

First, is Phil taking the points off the board against all "wisdom" and getting a TD for it!
Second, Al Wilson missed taking Peter Warricks head off by inches after one of those interceptions.
Gerald Griffin, burnt so badly by UFs fun and gun that he was benched a year or so before. Comes in after Goodrich injury and along with Steve Johnson, utterly shuts out Warrick the 2nd half.
The mighty TD saving smack down open field tackle by our punter in open field on Warrick. Probably saved the game at that point.
0-10 3rd down conversions vs an utterly rediculous FSU defense. 4th Q 3rd and 9 and Tee winds up the 75yd game winner to Peerless. Unreal.

Just stood in front of my TV in awe when we victory formationed.

For the 2001 game to come. Memory burp, good catch. Heck, maybe I was wanting Nebraska somehow to make it. I know there was some team I wanted some payback, prob either Neb or Penn St.

I watched my neighbor remove her FSU flags off her brand new bmw she was so proud of, I got married in 98 and I was at the the famous Arkansas game in Knoxville as well, it was glorious taunting the hog fans after the game! šŸ˜‚

Had to be Penn State. I root for anyone playing against that arrogant as_ of a coach Franklin.

I watched it in a sports bar in Manhattan Beach. I was the only Vol fan in the whole bar and there seemed to be dozens of 'Nole fans there, and they were talking a lot of stuff the first half - not so much in the second half. The cutest waitress in the bar asked me for a ride home after the game, and I didn't even ask for her number when I dropped her off at her apartment (probably just shellshocked still from the game).

Maybe undefeated Tulane. Didn't they take us to the woodshed in the 60s or 70s? 😃

I just remember the 3 way undefeated log jam, and then bam there we were all alone. A blessing probably, bc FSU had to ride their 3rd string QB into town after Weinke went down. He took out the Gators, so he looked good ... then Goodrich happened.

I was kinda hoping for UCLA. Always loved those games before then.
