Ya'll realize that coaches get asked about jobs they havent been offered and they give a token statement about being happy where they are doesnt equate being "shot down"?With every searcch we see coaches "turn down" jobs they never got offered. It's good pr to float your name out there and leave the impression you werent interested.

I don't think anyone has "turned down" the job yet, because I don't think it has been offered to anyone yet. The administration probably already had a list in the drawer anyway. Be patient.

Why..... I feel we got the right coach

I agree. Hart did a fine job with it. I would have actually thought less of the final outcome had he overpaid for Strong. Butch was a winner, and a very good value hire. He is proving to be a very good investment so far.

According to some midwest hoops insiders, a deal was on the table between UT and Tim Miles and possibly team of Miles and Doug McDermott. Miles backed away.

@mastur_nate anything new to report from the tim miles/greg mcdermott package to tennessee?

That's not true.....the only thing I feel confident happened was strong turned down the job and butch accepted the job

This. The Gundy deal was overblown and everyone knew he wasn't going anywhere. That was a meeting you take if you're Hart for the unlikely possibility that's he's truly interested, knowing it's likely not happening. Doubt an explicit offer was ever made.

Do what? GM is giving up a HC position and $1.4m to be an assistant with Miles?

Edit: misread it as his dad not Doug. I'd hope to goodness he'd be a GA if he tagged along and not a full time asst.

I don't care if he was offered or not, really doesn't mater at this point, that's not my point anyways. It's that a dysfunctional AD and bad pub can land you interviewing an assistant coach, and a HC who has been to 1 NCAAT in 6 years.

Buzz left Marquette for a worse job, in a really tough conference to get out of there, that says a lot. Martin could've stayed but left as well, that says something also IMO. Who we hire, and how much we have to overpay (if we do) will say a lot.

If you get Tyndall for $1.1m then it wasn't as bad as I thought, if it takes $1.5+ to get Tyndall then it took a lot of convincing to get him to leave when it shouldn't.

Who cares what we pay a coach? I just want a good coach.

Buzz Williams is in for a rough ride at va. tech. He will have to be a recruiting magician to compete in the acc, which is a better conference now than the old Big East in its prime.

Of course Marshall and Smart are longshots--they've been turning down jobs for years. But one can always pitch them, can't we? Nobody should worry about what sports reporters think.

Once Hart hires a new men's coach, he needs to start working on the women's job. Warlick doesn't have the chops to coach the UT women--way over her head.

Yea: we beat a floundering Iowa team, a mediocre UMASS team and a no-name school and everybody thinks Martin is a genius. The pundits didn't follow the program. Here's the bottom line: Some guys live to compete and some guys don't. Martin is another Tubby Smith: Starts to feel a little pressure and he flees--goes to a program that has NO--zero--basketball tradition. What does that tell you?

Comparing zo to Tubby Smith is laughable. tubby took three teams to the sweet 16 and won a national championship.
