Tuttle might redshirt?

Its sad because there are going to be injuries but when getting injured by a low life lineman going after your leg from behind you, if there was a place for a new rule they should be able to turn the video in and have the player suspended for 2 games.

My heart says the kid plays this year, head says whatever the staff and Shy decide I'll live with for the season. That said, Kublanow is a senior, would absolute detest the idea that slimey POS for UGA takes the field this year and Shy Tuttle does not. Kublanow should not be able to take the field against the Vols in 2016 without seeing Tuttle face to face at least one play for a beatdown that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overdue if there is any universal system in place close to karma or the Divine.

Redshirting isn't always about the fifth year. For a guy like shy, it lets him lift differently during the season. Can help him have a superior year following the RS season. Hell, Gerald McCoy redshirted and everybody knew that dude wasn't a five year player. If shy isn't right this year, there's no need to run him out there just to run him out there.

Just seems contrary to what the coaches have been saying...

It does indeed. However, recall what they said about Worley two years ago and Maggitt last year. They're not exactly forthcoming about our injury situations.

It might be best for Tuttle and for Tennessee for him to redshirt this year. My son tried to come back too early his freshman year of college was injured again and ended his college career. If he was my son I'd say redshirt if he isn't 100% by game one or two. He had too much ahead of him to try and get back too quickly. That dude from Georgia should really feel crappy about taking such a cheap shot!!!

Dustin from KNS on Mickey's show this morning saying it is possible if he isn't ready by mid season. Cited front loaded schedule for possibility

What front loaded schedule? We'll need him for the SECCG, playoffs and the NC game in Tampa!

If he hasn't been able to run or lift legs for 9 months, I can totally see a RS being best for both.

Yeah me too I was just surprised because I thought he was good to go and it was just conditioning

Look how much bad conditioning affected K-Mac last year, and that was with him being completely healthy starting in summer when he arrived. If you can only get 5 plays out of Tuttle a game, do you give him a roster spot over a player that can contribute more?

I'll worry about this when the coaches announce his status. It was just a few days ago Butch said this...

“Shy Tuttle is progressing,” Jones said, per Dopirak. “He’ll be limited in August camp. We have to do a great job of making sure he’s in shape, but he’s been cleared to run. He’s worked exceptionally hard, but it’s going to be touch and go every day. It’s going to be how his body works to heal. Every day, we’ll know a little something more. We anticipate him being ready for the first game, but we’ll see how that goes.”

So now he may not be ready by midseason and is looking at a redshirt? Not buying it.

I think a lot would have to do with how we handle our first 6 games. If we go 4-2 or worse, I could see the coaches taking it easy with him and RSing him. Disappointing for all parties obviously.

If we are 5-1 or better, we will play him and hope to get him conditioned and ready for a potential SEC Championship and playoff run.

Is he running--or even jogging--yet? It's hard to see how he'll be able to play/contribute against florida unless he is running/being active by the middle of August, as it will take him a month of hard work just to get /halfway/ fit. I doubt he'll be ready for florida--but maybe for the last half of the season, if we're lucky. Fingers crossed.

Maybe not if we're deep at DT. We're not. If he's healthy and able to contribute, even if in a limited capacity because of conditioning, then he plays IMO.

Completely disagree. I think Dopirak is the worst writer covering the Vols. The dude is always fishing for negative stories. Just like this whole Shy will redshirt theory.

I can't stand him.

Ever read the The Nashville Tennessean? My suggestion is don't as more negavol coverage there than the Tuscaloser Times.

They say and it is being reported he is running, has been actually. No green jersey, they are taking a cautious approach, I suspect similar to way they managed Maggitt prior to his last season.

I think he plays but if he was not able to participate the first 1/2 of the season that would make sense. Why waste a year for 6 or 7 games?

He's not needed until Georgia .

Fair statement. A full 2 months away, in the middle of that stretch after what could be a tiring fight with Florida. He would be a major boost personnel-wise and moral-wise. UGA has a better team than Florida anyway IMO. Having Shy there to fortify the D line against a most likely 100% Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, as well as being able to apply more pressure to a freshman QB (albeit a former 5 star) would be huge. Shy would still be playing 2/3 of the regular season, and it'd be a nice "injury anniversary" to make his come back against Kublanow ;). Also who knows, maybe Alexis Johnson would be cleared by the judicial board by then too...

So you buy pure speculation over evasive coach-speak?

I don't buy anything. When a kid goes on the field to play in a game is when I know he is healthy enough to play. Seen too many scenarios where A is ready to go and the season passes and he has not done anything..
