Dustin from KNS on Mickey's show this morning saying it is possible if he isn't ready by mid season. Cited front loaded schedule for possibility

I would hate that for him, but if he's not 100% this could be a year like Marques had last year for him.

Yeah me too I was just surprised because I thought he was good to go and it was just conditioning

I don't see anything new here. The entirety of VN is saying "it is possible if he isn't ready by mid season".

Guess we're all qualified to be sports reporters for KNS?

Maybe I've just spent too much time in The Pub and PF 😂

Is Tuttle a 5-year player? - No. Then why RS him if he's ready? At any point. Even if not 100% in shape, unless there's a risk of further injury, I don't see the benefit.

I see it like if he gets a hundred percent at any point mid year that circumstances make the call. If we are in SEC title race and thin after other injuries to DTs then necessity says Shy plays. If we prove fine without him then sure an extra year to rebuild that leg isn't a bad thing. We all saw how many times changed Dobbs redshirt season disappeared to necessity.

These guys don't know what they're talking about.

If we're going to the sec title game with a playoff spot on the line, Tuttle will play if he's 100%. The guy will not be a 5 year player so a redshirt year gets you nothing with him.

Shy will play this year if he's ready. It's illogical to redshirt him if he's ready.

We have 54 days till Florida. The fact that he is doing any work right now is a good sign. I'm not sure he will play much before Florida, but I think he will be ready come Sept 24th.

Yes. Just a beast reporter creating a scenario. Not a shred of direct input from anyone on our staff concerning this concept.

But, at least Dopriak tries to be of value. More than I can say for his boss.

Even if I were, I wouldn't apply. It doesn't even make decent toilet paper.

As to the possibility of a 300+ lb DL who has to push against 300+ lb OL redshirting? If the doctor overseeing how well those bones have healed isn't comfortable with him getting back on the field yet? Yeah, it's possible.

But it is just speculation at this point. Shy will be back when Butch says he is back. They have good people taking care of him. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and worry about things you can do something about.

Completely disagree. I think Dopirak is the worst writer covering the Vols. The dude is always fishing for negative stories. Just like this whole Shy will redshirt theory.

I can't stand him.

It's the 1st day of practice, so give Tuttle a few weeks, before declaring a redshirt year for this talented young Vol

Of course it depends on the injury, but I don't see the benefit of Shy's RSing for the future with all the interior DL's we've signed as well as the DE's we have that have grown into interior guys (e.g., Butcher, Kongbo, et al.).

The upcoming 4-game Murderer's Row we face from Sept. 24 to Oct. 15 is when we're going to need Shy the most. We'll then have a bye week and 6 unranked teams so he can take a breather.

Yeah that guy.just stated something obvious. If anyone isnt ready by midseason then they will prolly red shirt. Doubtful anyways, id we are in the hunt for a natty then he plays when he is ready.

I don't think that decision will be made until there is an evaluation of his performance during the Fall camp. If he can play at a high level by the Florida game, I think we will see him play a vital part of our defense in October and beyond.

And that's the whole point. If he is ready. The redshirt is not for the benifit of the team but the player. If I was in his shoes I would take my time and all the free rehab while he has it. No need to rush back.
