Turner Gill for OC?

you apparently didn't see Buffalo play any.
You apparently didn't see Tennessee play.

Here's an update: they were bad enough to get their coach fired. They lost (badly) to their 3 top rivals, and UT tied their record for most losses in a season. No UT wins came against a team that finished with a winning record. The offense was so futile that 5 different QBs were used - and not because of injury. The Tennessee offense was in the bottom 5% of the FBS. I could go on...

Naturally, were UT and Buffalo to meet on the field, I am confident UT would prevail. But I felt the same way facing Wyoming.

Whoever Kiffin annoints as the OC by title alone better serve a higher purpose as either recruiting coordinator/QB or wide receiver coach. Wouldn't Reaves be the OC if this were the case? It would make sense to me. Personally I am more concerned with who Kiffin hires as WR coach. I would like to see Kiffin hire another black WR coach that can recruit. Kiffin knows how to train Scott, but if Scott can't recruit I am pretty sure Kiffin will let him go in exchange for someone that can recruit because Kiffin is going to have to do the training of that coach either way.

We really need a susperstar WR coach and I don't know how to judge Scott or if I even should based on this year's performance.

this Tennessee team would have trounced the Buffalo team that I saw.

Wow, raynochonspeed, don't lose that confidence.
I see that you already have a candidate lined up for 2010.

Clawson made $340K as OC last year, but it doesn't matter. Gill will be making at least $600K next year as a HC in a BCS conference.

The thing about Auburn not hiring Turner Gill that got my attention was how it seemed to cause Charles Barkey irritation, anytime that can be acomplished I'm all for it. I think any university hiring Turner Gill now would carry a measure of risk...would'nt Turner Gill down deep wonder if you just hired him to patronize the black community?

I doubt Auburn would hire anyone that doesn't have some type of SEC experience. Charlie Strong and Kevin Steele were probably on their list behind Chizik.

I agree. While I think Gill will one day be an outstanding coach, he needs some solid WAC or MAC championship experience before he comes to play with the big dogs.

That is a bad joke. They had 5 losses as a MAC team. Put them in a pretty weak 2008 SEC and they would be even worse than UT was.
Yes, the fact that UT went 5-7 is a bad joke.

But my statement about Buffalo is unfortunately the truth. They won their conference, they are going to a bowl, and UT was worse.

Even a consensus of computer rankings agree (Buffalo #54, UT #62).

My statements are based on empirical evidence - actual facts and real numbers - rather than the easier-to-swallow hypotheticals and conditional statements. Yes, were Buffalo "in a weak 2008 SEC"...but they weren't, and never will be.

Are you to tell me that UT is a better team than Wyoming? I would love to believe so, but Wyoming came to Knoxville and beat the Vols. Therefore, this year, Wyoming was better than the Vols.

The facts are difficult to accept - which is precisely why Fulmer is no longer the coach.
