Just Asking. He is a good recruiter, a former QB and an up and coming coach. Would be a great move for him, on his way to a top level HC job. Would it be good for us at all? Anyone have an idea?
I think if he takes a job like HC of Iowa St., he could end up droping his stock value, where if he was here as OC he has more of a cushion. He could get big time player recruiting credentials. I would imagine we could pay him much more as OC then he makes at Buffalo.
Would that kind of move be considered backtracking, lateral or progressive? I am not sure.

I'd think that after his run at Buffalo his next step is going to be a head coaching job in a major conference while he's "hot".

I agree, but a job like Iowa St., which has been mentioned, is a bad situation. Hard to win there, but easy to waste away in obscurity.

If I was Turner Gill, I'd have the exact same concerns about becoming a coordinator somewhere though.

Good point, but at least under Kiffin, everyone knows who's offense is being run. A good place to receive a portion of praise, but take no blame. If he did, I am sure it would be a 1, maybe 2 year gig until the right job opened up. I agree with Sir Charles, Auburn really should have looked at this guy. You fire Tubb, you should really change things up, not take a boring, safe choice that doesn't excite your recruiting base.

We don't have the $$$ to hire an OC. That is one reason Kiffin has the large budget he does for his assitants ie $1 million for Monty because LK is our OC!

Why would someone go from the Head Coach position of a better team to a coordinator position of a lesser team?

Technically, Gill has a much better resume as a Head Coach than Lane Kiffin.

Gill is going to stay at Buffalo for next season, and then leapfrog next year into a top job somewhere. I could see him at maybe even Florida if Meyer bolts for ND.

I was really surprised Gill did not get the job at Auburn. To be honest, I was a little disappointed he did not get the job at UTK. I just hope the guy gets a great job somewhere other than the SEC.

That. I was scared Auburn was going to get him or Patterson. Glad they just set the program back ten years though.

The panel will be impressive. I'm sure of that.

It will. Parcells and co will be there, but they are also the ones that recommended Ross. While Ross is a good football coach, the needs at the Academies are peculiar. I would rather gave had Bob Sutton back.

TG's offense would probably look more like Jim Young's than any since then. That bone attack fits well with the players that Army gets.

Army has to win on shear determination combined with good X's and O's.

Shear determination? They are heavily into engineering and the civil guys can probably figure it out.

If the man was going to 'waste away into obscurity' he would have done it at Buffalo. Iowa State makes a lot of sense. Turner Gill is a legend in that part of the country; Ames is only ~3 hours from Lincoln.

The 'clones need a savior.

If UT offered him enough cash, he would take the OC job. He's probably making peanuts at Buffalo.
