Well the problem with that format is that lower conference heads and ND athletic director have agendas that don't include making sure the best teams get in the playoffs. Sankey and whoever big ten commissioner is can't outvote everyone. No objective reason to have automatic qualifiers. The rules are what all the conferences, including the SEC agreed upon. No one had the foresight to see the mess in the ACC this year.
Tulane wasn’t in this game over Notre Dame/Texas/Vanderbilt. Miami and Oklahoma were.
Tulane is here essentially as a “keep college football from turning into a massive anti-trust lawsuit involving like 20+ different states that would result in Congress also getting involved” compromise move.
There were, what, 6 seconds left at that point? Him not running out of bounds wouldn’t really change that outcome given the team lost by 5. You’re pretty much having to bank on a shorter 20 yard final prayer type of pass being a TD…and given the passing game was 17/29 for a grand total of 158 yards that day and 0 TDs, that’s still pretty doubtful.I’ll never forgive Nico for running out of bounds against Ark. kept us from hosting a home playoff game vs that awful SMU team.
Vandy won every OOC game, what are you even talking about? And Notre Dame lost by a combined four points to two playoff teams.
The gripe is that shitcan programs are allowed to "compete," when in reality they do nothing but, solely for the illusion that G5 programs have a legitimate chance at winning the national title. They don't, and allowing the charade to continue diminishes the CFP.
Did the conference commissioners have to vote to approve the reported deal that gives Notre Dame an automatic playoff berth if they finish in the top 12? If so, why would they approve that?Well the problem with that format is that lower conference heads and ND athletic director have agendas that don't include making sure the best teams get in the playoffs. Sankey and whoever big ten commissioner is can't outvote everyone. No objective reason to have automatic qualifiers.
Vandy could have scheduled OOC games against people. As it stands, Vandy finished the regular season with zero wins over ranked opponents.
Notre Dame same thing. They should have simply won their tough games.
Texas has a better claim for a playoff spot of those 3 schools. 2 top 10 (really Top 8) wins far outweighs the Florida loss.
Vandy simply shoulda scheduled better teams OOC
So Vanderbilt’s problem is that they didn’t drub North Texas? G5 schools don’t play anyone of note and, when they do, they typically get rocked.
Most P4 schools don’t want to actually schedule good G5 schools. This has literally been the case for years. Hell the only reason a SEC school finally schedule Boise years ago was if it was neutral site in the South. This is literally a tale as old as time.
Vandy lost to every ranked team they played this year which was Texas and Alabama. After the regular season concluded and the final regular season rankings came out, Vandy had zero ranked wins.
They should have scheduled tougher OOC opponents. Even with 3 losses, Texas got put ahead of Vandy because they had multiple Top 10 wins and the head to head. Vandy should have done better if they wanted to be included.
