I don’t know if Whitehead has moved over yet just a matter of time IMO. Especially if what I’ve been hearing about Hodge is correct, he has been the most impressive freshman running back. And one of the top 5 most impressive freshman with the others being: Hyatt,K.Lawrence,Spraggins and Wideman. Sprags may play the least this season with the best guard I’ve seen during my fandom here(Trey) and assuming we don’t get Cade eligible, Carvin has plenty of playing time and he’ll be our best option next season as well. Go vols I’m beyond excited that we even get to have these discussions all have a blessed day.
Love to hear this about Hodge. We need a big, bruiser back for between the tackles, short yardage plays. I think it will be interesting to see if Crouch will continue to be used in goal line situations this season.

It's way too early for an "I told you so" but last signing day people were lamenting the lack of a great running back in the 2020 class and I stated that Hodge was significantly underrated. He had been injured in 2018 plus Maryville plays a lot of kids in a diverse offense thereby cutting into his carries, but he has a great combination size and speed (there's plenty of video out there showing him "breaking the angle" on long runs). I still feel he's got what it takes to be the big back (230+ lbs eventually) alongside Grey's speed and elusiveness. I see him as similar to Little Man Stewart in that early to mid-90's backfield that also had Aaron Hayden and Charlie Garner.

I was thinking the same thing. Crouch is almost guaranteed from 2 yards out so it’s interesting to see what will play out

They need to ask about the QBs everyday. Only thing I’m listening for.
We are going to hear the same thing we have heard for years. JG is great in practice and has a good, not great, grasp on the offense, the QB competition is wide open, JG has excellent behind the line of scrimmage completion %, JG is great versus air, JG has been granted more eligibility while perusing a PhD in not footballing good, etc, etc

Exactly, but we gotta bootleg that thing to the right side one of these days right? Or maybe we’ll just be that good up front and we won‘t need misdirection? That works too.

I see the same thing so far in JG in limited throws. We saw 3 throws and 4 catches in that video.
1st catch. Instride
2nd throw #12 throwbin stride
3rd throw #2 wr has to stop turnaround and make the catch
4th catch same as 3rd

So again late and behind..tell me how more years with an OC will stop that cuz so far it hasn't

I am optimistic to a point, but these are the same guys that just squeaked a win over Indiana. (A win is a win is a win they say.) We also lost the 2 stud WRs that caught everything near them. JG is still the best QB option? I only hope all of these guys got better and smarter during the off season. Maybe they did. I hope JG made a quantum leap also.

And it took an onside kick to swing momentum at that. We won down the stretch but I didn't think we played particularly well. I'm not buying the hype just yet.

We didn’t used to pull out those games...we’d totally collapse when 1-2 things went south. New mindset and mental strength to go with elite development and physical training...and that’s BEFORE having superior evaluation prowess to get Pruitt’s type of players into the program. You’re free to be cautious, but don’t be that weepy, drunk guy blabbering at the drinking hole about waiting too long to buy into Amazon. 😉

I do agree that we took a step. Now the next step is to start beating down the teams that Tennessee should and playing rivals down to the wire. We should be beating teams like USCe, KY, Mizzou, and Vandy by double digits year in and year out. Likewise, we should be giving Florida, GA, and Bama all they can handle every year.

JG on showcase...under throwing #80. Lol.

So far we can stretch and our coaches can talk alot!!!
The interesting thing to me is that even as limited as information has been coming out of these practices... it appears they're trying to prevent them from even showing who is throwing particular passes in these videos.

I have no idea what that might mean...

PS- yeah, that was an ugly pass from a 5th year Sr.

I looked around at other team and coaches talking about QBs. Most mention the players throwing ability in some capacity improving, but with JG we get he manages the offense better....says more then saying nothing imo

I just don't know. I would love for JG to shock me. I truly would even knowing how a couple of cultists here will crow. I care far more about UT winning than I care about being wrong on a message board.

That said, I get the sense they are intentionally controlling the message RE QB's. I have not seen Maurer mentioned once which is odd. No idea if it is good or bad... just odd. I have seen "nice" but not very meaty things said about JG and Shrout. Just based on Pruitt's few comments... I don't think HB is going to be a factor this year.

There are many potential reasons for keeping a lid on it. Maybe they want to "surprise" Muschamp and deny him a month of specific QB prep? Maybe they have some real disagreement and uncertainty and don't want it to boil over into the public and fanbase for the sake of the players? Maybe JG has locked it down and there's just nothing to discuss?

The relative silence is just different than other years.

If Pruitt has proven one thing during our musical qb debacle from last year it’s that qb playing style effects defensive game plans and therefore qb talk/video/reports are kept very close to the chest. Almost micromanaged. That being said, the one least talked about may just be in better shape than we think. But what do I know? 🤷‍♂️

With another poster, reading between the lines takes effort. In this instance, just start a Maurer thread. “What” indeed.

You likely know more than me... and honestly I just don't have any feel for it at all.

I do think Pruitt likes to keep other teams in the dark more than Jones. Jones at times just couldn't shut up or give away enough information.

I wouldn't call last year's musical qb's a "debacle" from a coaching standpoint. I think they took a very bad situation and made some good out of it. JG showed promise in practice then had to be replaced. Maurer looked promising but kept getting hurt. JG finally came around in management of the O... and the D came on strong enough to let them "manage" games to wins that early in the season would have been losses.

I don't think they could have played a pair of 5's hand any better.
