Technically, they're not even "rising" until they finish this year's academics. For now, whoever he's calling a "rising senior" is still a junior. And so on. Over the summer they'll be "rising" whatever, and then come start of the new academic year in the fall they'll lose the "rising" qualifier.

But who gives a poop, we know what he means. Whether he says "future senior" or "rising senior" or "current junior" we'll understand. It's not like anyone reading his article doesn't already know that next fall Pig will be a senior, Josh a junior, Jalen a sophomore, and Shy a freshman, anyway. :)

I think if he said current junior for a rising senior it would confuse the hell out of people

VQ uploaded a video of OL vs DL and Blair looks really good. He could be dominant with sustained effort.

Larry said Blair tries hard, but will not play. The only thing I can figure is Blair is fine doing one on one drills, but does not know blocking schemes for each play. Just my guess though.

I think this is correct. I heard Austin Sanders interviewed yesterday and said that as a guard, it is much easier when Kerbyson is at left tackle because he's very knowledgable and quick in identifying and helping make the correct calls. My guess is you're right Powell, it's likely not the physical part that is holding Blair back but rather the cognitive understanding of blocking schemes.

I don't think I can take another year of watching our offensive tackles getting beat off the edge by athletic defensive ends.

Post them here.

Patrick Brown: Tennessee practiced in shells today, but it looked like #Vols got Alvin Kamara (thigh bruise) and Emmanuel Moseley (mono) back.

Rucker's Fast Five
1. Vols practiced in shorts.
2. Kamara and Moseley back.
3. Maggitt and Kirkland were back on the field, with no contact obviously.
4. No Coleman Thomas still and Reeves-Maybin was late, likely due to class obligations.

Corey Gunkel: DL Kendal Vickers, who's impressed his coach this spring, says his ideal weight is 290. http://t.co/HD6uo0uexY

DORMADY: We did a good job of correcting mental errors. I am getting more and more comfortable each and every day. http://t.co/4QNoCj8D2f

Watch Butch Jones live: https://www.periscope.tv/w/Vw7MGjE3MDk5fDQ2NDIwMDC6-RUSqhhqsshohWTxIm-Ki8ycNy0fyycIILH3wO2kzQ==

JONES: First shells practice for this football team, our guys did a good job of handling that.
JONES: @EMoseley_4 is back. He adds to that competitive structure that we talk about so it's great to have him back in practice.
JONES: @DreadHead_Vick (Kendal Vickers) is an inside player for us. He's handled that move extremely well. He's becoming more comfortable in that role.
JONES: We pick our spots in practice when balancing reps for our veteran players and young players.
JONES: It was good to have @A_kamara6 back out there today. He had some valuable repetitions. @MrHurd_1 got some work as well.
JONES: I think the Orange & White game is important for us. It's going to be a great event, but it will be a challenge with our numbers.
JONES: We'll mix some special things into practice on Saturday for Student Appreciation Day. We're very excited about that.
JONES: Our administration had been very supportive of myself and our coaching staff. I'm grateful for them showing that support.
JONES: The safety position has been extremely competitive for us. @aSuperManDoe (Evan Berry) is playing his best football right now.
JONES: When you start to build a program, your younger players learn from your older players.

From the videos, my take!

QD is going to be outstanding!

KV 710lb squat, Good Golly Miss Molly that boy is strong! Can't wait to see the Dline rotation this year. It's been a long time since we could say that its a strength of the team.

We are loaded at Safety! Maybe the best group in the country!

This team is going to be really good!

So basically Blair is physically ready but not mentally?

I hope the situation with Blair isn't Dobbs all over again.

Coach Jones cannot make the same mistake he made last year when he waited until Worley got hurt to insert Dobbs. If Blair is inserted into the lineup because of injury and he performs better than Kerbyson, we might have to start questioning whether this staff knows who to play ahead of who.

I don't think I can take another year of watching our offensive tackles getting beat off the edge by athletic defensive ends.

Agreed. Surely to all that's holy we're not gonna have to endure that again this year. I'm still scared to death at the idea of Kerbyson at LT. Hope my concerns wind up being for naught.

Thank god we have a mobile qb at least

You can't simplify ZBS. You also don't want to change blocking schemes to fit one player.

You can draw plays around a WR or RB. OL and QB not so much.

I agree for the most part, but I'm fairly sure I remember Kiffin and Chaney scaling down the offense so that Crompton only had to read one side of the field.

Peyton's UT playbook contained more plays than most NFL playbooks. Tee Martin began the next year with only 7 plays. You don't always get to manage the way you want. Sometimes you work with the tools, talent and experience you have.

Same here. I don't think I can take it again. LT could be the make or break position for us this season.

There's still lots of time for all our guys to learn, get better and get stronger before game 1.

I believe we'll get better but how much better will really be seen against Oklahomer.

Are "shells" slang for "pads" all of a sudden?

Shells means only shoulder pads and helmets. It's nothing new. Football terminology never completely changes. It's only recycled

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.

It was called shells when I was in middle school and high school. I graduated in '04

Shells = Helmets and shoulder pads.

Same for me graduated 08, except shells include thigh pads and butt pad as well. Course by the time we graduated we got the fancy underpants with the tiny hexagonal pads inside them. Still use them for snowboarding. Lol

Agreed. I think the complicated blocking scheme may end up negating a lot of talent due to confusion and just lack of mental capacity. I'm really hopeful that Debord can provide some much needed help.
