Tuberville Out, A few things in common with Fulmer

Clawson does not run what has become known as the college spread. He runs a hybrid that resembles the west coast offense more than anything.

Look for Dave Clawson to land at Towson University within the next few weeks. They fired their coach Sunday and are int he same conference as Richmond.
Don't be surprised if Dave becomes the new OC at Missouri.

Maybe its because I'm not an Auburn fan but from what I heard their fan base really wanted to keep him, but he was never on the AD and Pres's good side?

I was wrong.

I thought he was safe because they didn't can him immediately after the Bama game.
i was wrong too. i thought if we was going to leave on his own, he'd of been announced as the Clemson HC by now.

there's no real good football reason for this at this particular time. I just can't get myself to believe that they just have to have Mike Leach all the sudden.

this was personal all the way.

My own personal knowledge was that most Aubies wanted to keep TT, several were on the fence and only a few wanted him fired. Most felt that he like PF didn't give the new hire OC a real chance when the offense looked bad early on.

From all the reports it seems they wanted to gauge the interest from the top two guys on their list. The real question is whether it will be Leach or Muschamp.

If I were a coach I would not want this guy breathing down my neck. Did he just have something against Tubby or what?

I have family that lives in the Auburn area and have connections within the athletic department. From what I was told TT was not going to give into the wholesale changes on his staff that the AD, President and Lowder wanted. Some of these coaches have been with TT since Ole Miss days and he wasn't going to budge. Basically they reached and impass and neither side was willing to give in this time.

Be interesting to see how fast Miss. State comes calling to TT.:pepper::rock:

another difference is that UT fans will all be chipping in for Tubby's buyout since Lowder's bank just got $550mil in the bailout. We should get input on their new coach for that money :)

Not all football people view Clawson as the disaster so many Vol fans do.

Indeed. Football is like a lot of other things in life - being in the right place at the right time makes for a better ride than being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or for being in the wrong place at the right time - for that matter.

Another difference is this...here's a quote from Tubby.

``I'm going to work a little bit with Dr. Gogue and see if there's anything he wants me to do. I'm an Auburn person and I believe in this school. They've done a lot more for me than I've done for them, so I'm going to try to give back as much as I can as long as I'm not really doing anything. But I'm not going to be in the way. You're not going to hear from me much publicly.''

It should be money well spent. I don't think Auburn can do better than Tubberville.

He also stated one time that he 'Wont leave Old Miss unless he was in a pine box'.
Left the next day for AU.

Re: Tuberville out at Auburn

I talked to family in Auburn this evening on the way home. They report there is talk around town of some serious personal issues, not of his making, and that Tubs wanted out. Whether the whole story comes out, it sounds like Auburn isn't the total villian it sure looked like when I first heard of this.

I never figured out what he was trying to do. I think he was just expecting to be able to toss screens out of the backfield all game long to win games

Yea there were so many three and outs I never got to see what either offense actually was

Per the presser that just went across, Auburn's AD and president tried to talk him out of it.

Yeah, here ya go....
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs says he was shocked when Tommy Tuberville resigned as football coach.
Jacobs said Thursday that he and university President Jay Gogue tried to talk him out of it the previous day and had never considered firing him.
Auburn has hired consultant Bill Carr to help with the search for a new coach. Jacobs said to his knowledge no university representative has been in contact with a potential candidate.
Auburn's wish list reportedly could include Texas Tech's Mike Leach, Louisiana Tech's Derek Dooley and current coaches-in-waiting Jimbo Fisher of Florida State and Will Muschamp at Texas.
Jacobs said there were no financial constraints for the hire.
Tuberville stepped down after 10 seasons.

Fulmer and Tennessee own the longest winning streak ever over Alabama if I'm not mistaken. 1995-2001.

You are correct. What I meant was that Tennessee's longest streak is 7 and PF was the coach. Auburn's longest streak is 6 and TT was the coach.
