Alright, I told myself I'd avoid even looking at the forums for a few days knowing how a chunk of fanbase would be either A) calling for a 4th new coach B) crying and probably drunk when posting after a close WIN (yes, we won, it was awfully ugly but we won, period.) or C) Were introduced to the sport just as the UAB/UT game started and think they are sports experts based on what they saw.

We all knew about the lack of depth, we were going to be relying heavily on freshman (both true and RS), we had a brutal schedule that included 5 top 15 teams...well, top 25 thanks to SC dropping and it would be very much a work in progress.

I think the one thread that really baffled me was the 'dooley sucks' thread.....heck, I'll leave it there, that is so idiotic it doesn't deserve any more thought, but it was probably started by the guy I saw on the telecast saturday that was screaming because we didnt go for it on 4th and 1 or 2 in our own territory towards the end of the game, the same idiot who'd still be screaming even if his 'genious' idea didn't work......

But to the negavols out there.....where did it slip your mind that we knew all of the circumstances, they have been very well documented, and we all knew it would take some time to get the depth and experience levels where they need to be to compete for the east and sec? Just curious how that thought process went....

The Dooley thread your referring to was started in January I think. UTMBA brought it back to life.

It's a win. Not pretty but I'll take it.
Hope we have a good week of practice and can play better against LSU.
GBO!

For this young team any win should be celebrated. Granted I wasn't happy to see how far our program has actually fallen but we must remember even top teams sometimes lose crazy games when they shouldn't. Also we just got done losing a hard fought ball game to Florida, the boy's I'm sure weren't to high after that and they probably looking ahead a little bit to LSU. Though this next month will be a tough stretch I think we'll see a few things that will give us hope for the future. Listen it wasn't like Florida just killed us (unlike UK). We make a few more plays and we at least have a chance to pull it out. That tells me we lack depth and we're young. Youth grows older and depth will come.

Maybe we can hire a new coach every year. I mean we get 15 to 25 new players every year, why not get a new coach every year too. Hell we can have an election, a party, and maybe even declare a "New Coach Holiday".:)

Only thing I can tell peeps is give it time they act like we should win the NC this season. When you have 3 coaches in 3 years your going to be behind. Plus all the players who left cause of a coach or behavior doesn't help matters. We are way down this year and our schedule don't help. Guess what Its gonna take Dooley some time I'm behind him right now and will if we progress. But if year 5 comes along and we are down get a new coach. However I think Dooley will make it through.

andy, im sort of like you. i hate coming on here a few days after a game, because somebody is always complaining. nobody can be happy with a win. even though they know we are young and lack talent and depth. a win is a win, wether its ugly or not. im sure the players feel the same way.

Only the morons are complaining about the coaching at this point. We really don't have enough talent or depth to accurately evaluate Dooley yet.

Anybody should be proud how this team hung in there and won when they could easily have folded.
A sweet victory IMHO!
GO VOLS!

^^^This. As much as I want to give Dooley a grade right now, I can't. However, this game did test my resolve to give him 3 years. :)

Nobody wants to praise mediocrity...it's just a fact of life...get use to more complaining until we right the ship.

I disagree, Bush supporters, Obama supporters, Detroit Lions fans, Vandy fans, Ky football fans, and Mike Hamilton apologist LOVE PRAISING Mediocrity.:)

Most of the whining and wailing is a result of the demographic change that includes sports-talk radio, television, and internet. Fans don't understand football but do want to be like their hero media hosts. It becomes a game of "I blasted 'em first!"

The current situation with UT football is 100% the fault of "Summer's Eve" Hamilton. He has presided over the demise of track/field, swimming, baseball, football, and now can likely add men's basketball to his list of credits. He needs to go if the Vols are going to succeed. If he stays, they will suck seed.

IMO Dooley & the coaches are doing a pretty good job with the players they have.

But should lack of experience equate to poor blocking, poor tackling, and dropped passes? I don't think so.

The team just didn't show up vs. UAB.

I agree with the OP's sentiments.

The irony of the negativity out there right now is the large number people I heard back in July & August talk about how this was going to be a brutal year and how we'd be fortunate to finish the season above .500 and how 5-7 or 4-8 would be a legitimate possibility.

But now that reality has set in (and I guess it's human nature b/c it's really hard to have patience in the middle of difficult times), a lot of those same folks who predicted we were going to have a tough year are the ones who are panicking and screaming about the sky falling, "Fire Dooley!!".

I guess it's that eternal hope we all have at the beginning of a new season. Even though our heads tell us we're going to suck, our hearts always want to believe/hope that we've got a shot to end up in the NC game. And when reality does actually set in, we start complaining and calling for coaches' heads on a silver platter.

Everybody needs to just take a deep breath and enjoy this ride (as difficult as it might be some days).

If you look at other storied programs (a la Michigan and Bama) in recent history with new head coaches, the first year was brutal (Rodriguez (3-9) and Saban (6-6, loss at home to LA-Lafayette)). I have to constantly remind myself that this year is not going to be pretty, and that expectations need to be continually adjusted lower. With the schedule we have coming up, it's going to be ugly. There's just no way around it.

So I say again - let's just enjoy the ride and support these players and coaches. GBO.

I really hope you're being sarcastic.

Tennessee has 288 yds. total offense vs. FLA and allows 317 total yds.

Tennessee has 287 yds. total offense vs. UAB and allows 544 total yds.

And you are giving the team a free pass because they are "inexperienced"? With all due respect, I'm glad you're not coaching our team.

It looks to me like they forgot to show up against UAB.

Blah Blah Blah down this year, Blah blah blah lack of depth.

Knowing those facts still doesn't make the games easy to watch. We can have low expectations, but nobody can expect us to like it!!!!

We don't have to do a Fulmer clap every week when we suck on the field. Express the rage. It will make you feel better.
