Thus, voter ID != racist policy.

This is literally what I mentioned in another thread about gov't style spending being the least efficient spending type.

Most efficient: me spending my money on my needs. I worked for my money and will value. I'll have to live with the solution it's spent on, so I'll try my best to get the best value.

Less efficient: Me spending your money on my needs. I'll have to live with the solution, so will want a good one, but value for $$$ will likely be less important to me if you're footing the bill.

Least efficient: me spending someone else's money on a solution for you. I'm less likely to care how much I spend, and less likely to care whether the solution is the best one. (This is the gov't spending model.)

Why should they get 2024 taxes abated? It was based on the value as of 1/1/24.

They wont pay 2025 taxes (due January 2026) if the house is still destroyed as of 1/1/25...

Giving people a deferral on payment if their property had major damage would be the humane and voter friendly approach. They could require documentation of the damage from the property owners and then confirm it.

I can get behind an interest free deferral for those with a destroyed house.

Just not a big fan of punishing the 90% that either already paid 2024 taxes via escrow or in the months preceding Helene to take advantage of early pay discount.

Those whose homes were destroyed should get a full abatement for 2025 taxes.

Technically these bills were due 9/1/24..1/6/25 is the last day to pay before the higher delinquent interest and penalty rates apply...
