TrumpPutingate III: the beginning of the end

No. And the majority of the research being conducted is in the wrong direction. It should be in how we live with it.

No, we need to know if we are the primary cause. Just because you want ignore the fact that we may be the primary cause doesn't mean it ain't so.

If there is a viable product private industry will fund it. If they see it as a waste of time it’s probably a waste of time.

It probably is not a problem for which a product can be created that solves it generating billions. It is a problem that either, as Hog says we learn to live with, or a problem that requires us to alter our behavior in a way that does not maximize profits. Either way business ain't interested, but businesses aren't out to simply benefit society. They are out to maximize profits. The free market doesn't solve every problem. Nor is it designed to, but the right uses it liking a f#cking crutch every time the government tries to spend money.

green tech doesn't generate billions? the issue is that right now green tech isn't the cheapest option out there.

It’s been researched for over 20 years, if it cannot be definitely proved by now it’s time to move on to how we survive it.

A combine and plow doesn’t do the same thing. Gee zus

FFS. NO ****. I see your a card-carrying member of Trumps "Most People Don't Know" fan club. Any more 5th grader facts to contribute? Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure Trump makes this comment when he actually learns something and presumes that it's not common knowledge, e.g. Korea war not over, Lincoln was a Republican, a combine is not a plow, water is wet.

Maybe the best way to survive is to slow it down or reverse it.

and it says no more funding for CC research?

I'm 100% certain the Federal government continues to fund CC research.

Massive cuts.

There you go assuming the cheapest option is always the best.

Your very question may explain this whole Trump catastrophe.

Do you respect the position of a 5 star general?

Do you respect the position of a priest/minister?

Do you respect the position of parenthood?

Do you respect the position of spouse?

Do you respect the position of a judge?

Do you respect the position of a LEO?

The positions deserve respect (especially president) when held by a person worthy of the position.

So you answered a question with more questions. Got it. Just continue the ignorant Trump hate.

Better it's done in the private sector anyway.

Of course, the same could be said about a lot of things done by the government these days.

I disagree that this particular issue is better handled in the private sector because researching the cause doesn't produce income. A discovery that the burning of fossil fuels is causing our problem is not wanted because that costs money. It generates zero.

I think you are confusing EPA funding changes with research funding in general.

The EPA is not a large source of research funding. Cuts to the EPA research budget would make a small dent at best in overall research funding.

In looking at some NSF data, there's been a downward trend in CC funding since 2009 - couldn't be that evil climate hater Obama. More likely the trend is that research priorities at the agencies evolve and the number of grant submissions with ground breaking new knowledge potential is falling relative to other research priorities (and those priorities aren't dictated by the President).

In short, we are still funding mucho CC research. The notion that Trump has cut all funding or even most funding for CC research is simply not grounded in fact (ironic).

You discount the value of intellectual property. Whomever solves the green tech mouse trap and gets the patents will generate huge amounts of income.

Private sector meaning universities and research labs.

Yes, they are just as or better suited to this than the government.
