Trump last year said that when he fired Comey he was "thinking of the Russia thing." He then told Russian ambassador that now that he had fired Comey he had taken care of the Russia investigation.

Now he says he was not fired for it?

This is all so very confusing.

If he ever gets in front of a grand jury, or on record in any respect, Mueller and his team are going to carve him up like a Thanksgiving turkey. Trump has contradicted himself so many times, made so many obviously false statements.

Trump is spot on. He actually said it's THE Russia thing not it's the RUSSIA thing. It's all in the enunciation. Changes everything. Damn witch hunt.

His 15 minutes of fame will be over and done with soon.
Well of course there's always the IG Report, that "may" bring him back to "Breaking News" once again, causing the narcissistic disgrace of an F.B.I. Director to blow through his book royalties for legal fees to defend himself.

The 3 charges: brink of nuclear war (umm, we're in talks with NK); obstructed justice (we'll see); took money from foreign governments (Hello Hillary voters!).

Schwing and a miss.

Interesting that the old "collusion" charge has been dropped - you know the one that was the impetus for this thread (a thread in it's 3rd iteration).

So, Comey is a narcissistic disgrace to his office, but Trump isn't? Hmm. Now, I'm in no way defending Comey. He needed to go, and this book tour is ridiculous. However, knocking him for the same flaws Trump has in spades is a little disingenuous, don't you think?

if we were using Trump as a key witness to bring down an elected official the comparison might hold. as it is Comey makes a poor witness/source/whatever, Trump remains an azzhat.

I don't particularly like Comey. He's a bit sanctimonious for my tastes, and should not be saying things like that Trump is morally unfit. I mean, he is unfit, but I think it comes across as petty, personal, and vindictive coming from Comey.

Nonetheless, I absolutely believe him over Trump when it comes to what Trump said to him in their meeting. ZERO doubt but that Trump was pressuring him to squelch the investigation and that, when he wouldn't, Trump fired him. The notion he was fired for anything else is just patently ridiculous.

My take on the overall crux of the interview was more along the lines that Trump is a threat to the office, and that we're becoming desensitized to the Dotard's increasingly unhinged attacks on people and institutions.
Comey came of as sincere and believable, and gave lengthy explanations on his very questionable actions around election time.

He's an egomaniac like Trump, just less so.

The Comey issue is he's holding himself up as some paragon of virtue while at the same time getting right in the gutter with Trump.
