President Trump on Monday signed an executive grant of clemency, a full pardon, to a former Army first lieutenant convicted of murdering an Iraqi prisoner.

The White House released a statement announcing Trump's decision to pardon Michael Behenna, who was sentenced in 2009 to 15 years for shooting and killing Ali Mansur Mohamed. The move comes after repeated requests from Oklahoma's attorney general for Trump to pardon Behenna.

“'Behenna acknowledged during his trial that instead of taking the prisoner home as he was ordered, he took the man to a railroad culvert, stripped him, and then questioned him at gunpoint about a roadside bombing that had killed two members of Behenna's platoon.' Behenna says the man moved toward him, and he shot him in self-defense."

He served 5 years in Levenworth prison. Military trials are not the same as civilian. I feel like he might have been punished for a controversial act. See the below statement from the Fox News article.

In 2018, Behenna's parents told Fox News the prosecution failed to disclose that their own expert's analysis supported their son’s version of events. The expert felt so strongly that he reached out to the Behennas about his findings.

He didn’t follow orders and it resulted in a death, he deserved to be punished.

Kinda where I am at. Not sure how military stuff works but this seems like a negligent homicide not murder. Him not following orders lead to this, even if self defense.

5 years in Leavenworth plus a dishonorable discharge and the loss of any post-service benefits like retirement, VA and such.
