For North Korea, this makes sense..
They've wanted:
To have a seat at the global table
Be a part of the global economy
Not fear of an invasion
Be left to their governmental ways
In order for this to happen they need to:
Get rid of nukes and stop its development
Treat their people like a global power should
Remain peaceful
They become on even trading ground, which will boosts their economy and relieve them of being under Chinas thumb.
Now, we focus on China without the NK distraction. This is my general opinion from the outside. It just makes sense.
Nothing new? LOL. Don't put yourself in a position to be ridiculed. I get you don't like the man, but damn, give him the credit he's due. Everything has a beginning, and hopefully this leads to the desired end, but Trump did more last night than Obama did in 8 years when it comes to dealing with NK.
I get this may lead to nothing, but on the other hand this may very well lead to a great big something.

Credit for what? No concrete plan for the de-nuclearization of the DPRK has been outlined. No time frame has been settled. No process for verification has been established. This is just reaffirming rhetoric from the April meeting with South Korea. It has the framework of diplomacy and it has all the optics that Trump supporters will eat up... but this is nothing new except that we have now placed Kim Jong Un as a peer.
It's nothing new. The 1994 de-nuclearization agreement between Clinton and Kim Jong-il broke down because the DPRK failed to follow the details of the agreement. In this case, we only have a very broad framework (no details seem to have been established). We've had that before.
I am willing to bet that the people applauding this empty dog and pony show could not articulate what makes this a success while the Iran nuclear deal was a mistake. I am willing to bet that Trump himself, could not explain this.
Also, Trump seemed to signal a major concession at his press conference by saying that the United States and South Korea will be ending their joint military exercises. He cited cost as a factor in this but that's a cop-out. This was the first of what will likely be many concessions with absolutely nothing but a signature on a piece of paper to show for it.

You left out the #1 thing that Kim Jong un wants: To stay in power. They will not de-nuclearize.
Good grief, even Fox and CNN admitted last night this wasn't going to be finalized yesterday. Or are you that ignorant of international diplomacy to think they were going to hammer out an agreement in less than a day?
The point is the two sides agreed to move forward rather than continue the status quo. That's huge.
Give credit where it's due for a change.
You do realize they do joint military exercises every..single..day. Call me crazy but holding off on a war game designed to replicate invading North Korea while in diplomatic talks MIGHT be thoughtful..
I get it though..your desperate to find some negative spin because if you don't, well, you might get another 4 years of the Trumpster.lol:
Put aside the hate and partisan politics for a minute.
Im all for it N Korea shows they are denuclearizing. If not we sail right back in. I know its a hard pill to swallow for the war mongers on the left.

What exactly are we to give him credit for? They have been working on this for over a year. It didn't start yesterday. The only thing we can give Trump credit for is giving concessions by ending war games with S. Korea.
I cant believe folks are actually trying to discredit this moment... We have some really dumb people in this country. This in this generations cold war. It appears to be ending. FFS be happy for America just once.
