Trump cancels Singapore nuclear summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un

For North Korea, this makes sense..

They've wanted:
To have a seat at the global table
Be a part of the global economy
Not fear of an invasion
Be left to their governmental ways

In order for this to happen they need to:
Get rid of nukes and stop its development
Treat their people like a global power should
Remain peaceful

They become on even trading ground, which will boosts their economy and relieve them of being under Chinas thumb.

Now, we focus on China without the NK distraction. This is my general opinion from the outside. It just makes sense.

I think you will see North Korea go the way of China..they will maintain an authoritative/commie/dictatorship rule but embrace capitalism economically. Obviously though this will take a long time to establish IF they are even serious.

Nothing new? LOL. Don't put yourself in a position to be ridiculed. I get you don't like the man, but damn, give him the credit he's due. Everything has a beginning, and hopefully this leads to the desired end, but Trump did more last night than Obama did in 8 years when it comes to dealing with NK.

I get this may lead to nothing, but on the other hand this may very well lead to a great big something.

It's nothing new. The 1994 de-nuclearization agreement between Clinton and Kim Jong-il broke down because the DPRK failed to follow the details of the agreement. In this case, we only have a very broad framework (no details seem to have been established). We've had that before.

I am willing to bet that the people applauding this empty dog and pony show could not articulate what makes this a success while the Iran nuclear deal was a mistake. I am willing to bet that Trump himself, could not explain this.

You left out the #1 thing that Kim Jong un wants: To stay in power. They will not de-nuclearize.

So they just signed an agreement and Trump is supposed to immediately invalidate it by saying he doesn’t trust it?

Also, Trump seemed to signal a major concession at his press conference by saying that the United States and South Korea will be ending their joint military exercises. He cited cost as a factor in this but that's a cop-out. This was the first of what will likely be many concessions with absolutely nothing but a signature on a piece of paper to show for it.

Credit for what? No concrete plan for the de-nuclearization of the DPRK has been outlined. No time frame has been settled. No process for verification has been established. This is just reaffirming rhetoric from the April meeting with South Korea. It has the framework of diplomacy and it has all the optics that Trump supporters will eat up... but this is nothing new except that we have now placed Kim Jong Un as a peer.

Good grief, even Fox and CNN admitted last night this wasn't going to be finalized yesterday. Or are you that ignorant of international diplomacy to think they were going to hammer out an agreement in less than a day?

The point is the two sides agreed to move forward rather than continue the status quo. That's huge.

Give credit where it's due for a change.

Its a step in the right direction, the first step. You'll need to be a little patient. I guess Trump is to blame for not solving the North Korea issue right then and there....

The big difference between this and the Iran nuclear deal (remember nothing has been put into place in NK yet..chill) Obama literally grabbed his ankles and capitulated hard, like reallllly hard, for Iran. No face to face, no actual checks and balances. He literally said "I will take their word on it"...and "we will trust the Iranians"..lol.

Yes, it's fairly obvious BB is an ignorant fool by reading these comments.

That's not exactly breaking news.

I’m all for it N Korea shows they are denuclearizing. If not we sail right back in. I know it’s a hard pill to swallow for the war mongers on the left.

You do realize they do joint military exercises every..single..day. Call me crazy but holding off on a war game designed to replicate invading North Korea while in diplomatic talks MIGHT be thoughtful..

I get it though..your desperate to find some negative spin because if you don't, well, you might get another 4 years of the Trumpster. :eek:lol:

Put aside the hate and partisan politics for a minute.

Ceasing nuclear operations is the only way he stays in power. And I didnt leave that off if you notice the "keep their governmental ways" part.

At the end of the day, this agreement, no matter how much fluff you think it is, is more than ANYONE thought during the FIRST MEETING. Get some perspective before you start acting like LG.

What exactly are we to give him credit for? They have been working on this for over a year. It didn't start yesterday. The only thing we can give Trump credit for is giving concessions by ending war games with S. Korea.

If we see a smidge of action, this is Trumps Osama Bin Laden. Hes back in another four years.

BB's ignorant. I know plenty of folks over there that will be happy not having to play rubber face every two weeks. They drill practically constantly over there and dialing it back a tad isn't going to affect readiness in a big way or likely at all.

Trump pulled the plug on "large scale" military exercises with the South Koreans. Said nothing about exercising at a smaller scale or a unit level. Or tabletop exercises with the command staff. It's a rather symbolic measure, but something North Korea wanted for years.

We stop large scale exercises. They commit to becoming nuclear free. We can easy start exercising back up if they back off. Not as easy to restart a nuclear program if they back out.

Which one sounds like the bigger concession?

The lack of concessions from the United States of America, e.g. there was no $1.7 billion in pallets of cash, or return of $150 billion that could be used for expanding their existing nuclear weapons program.

This is the beginning of true diplomacy with North Korea.

The fact you can't acknowledge it shows you care more about making Trump look bad than a peaceful outcome between the US and DPRK.

You too? You want to play the ignorant card as well?

Let's see. First ****ing meeting between the sitting President of the United States and North Korea.

****ing huge.

North Korea agrees in principle to go nuke free.

****ing huge.

US stops large scale exercises with South Korea.

****ing tiny in the grand scheme of things.

US troops being moved out of the Korean Peninsula?

Nope.

You and others like BB are truly pathetic if you cannot see the magnitude of what happened last night. I don't care who was President, this is the last Cold War battlefront and it's moving towards peace.

Wonder how the war mongers feel about this summit?

BB hates hit. Mick seems pretty negative too.

I am just glad it didn't turn to crap. WWIII could have been started if the left was to be believed with idiot Trump tossing his "i have a button" around. the longer the talks go on the better.

They are just completely against anything Trump, he can't do anything right. The far left still hasn't got past losing the election truly a worthless group. Who knows where this leads but its a great first step
