True story of players being cut

Can anyone name 5 walk-ons on the football team that has done anything of any significance in the past 20 years?? Even then, the whole outcry for walk-ons being cut is ridiculous at best.

There was a guy from up here(UET/SWVA) some years back who won a scholly .He was fantastic in high school but supposedly to small to draw college attention. I don't believe he made it to the pros or was cut early but he was a dynamo. Maybe someone up here will remember him. I believe it was the early/mid 90's.

Depends on which football teams. 4 walkons were starters on the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers team.

My high schools run test was 32x110s in 20 sec for lineman, 18 for medium skill (LB,FB,DE) and 16 for small skill (WR, RB, DB, QB)

I was a Police Officer here in Knoxville for 9 years. Therefore I worked the UT home games. I have to say that while working the UT games, I ran into some of the rudest fans I have seen. Personally I have been to The Swamp, Bryant-Denny, Commonwealth, and Jordan Hare. I have to say that the fans at those stadiums were alot friendlier. Reading this post confirms the rudeness of some, not all, UT fans. Lets act like adults here.

Cops lie.

I mean I love Tennessee sports don't get me wrong. Football, basketball, baseball and so on. Its just hard to read some of what was said. It seems that it started out as his opionion and people didn't like it so they started ganging up on him. Just from the outside looking in. After reading this thread, is that how people want UT fans to be portrayed? Not me.

Fair enough, but don't tell lies. The Swamp is a cesspool of rude guidos (in jorts). There are far more disrespectful UF fans than decent ones. If you have really been around many as a Vol fan or even uniformed observer, you'd know this.

Whoa. Tom Osborne would cheat? Crazy that those NE Olinemen never panned out in the pros.

On the offensive side of the ball, I'm fairly certain Nebraska had a ton more successful linemen than most would give them credit for.

The problem they had was that a good chunk of the schedule consisted of wailing on the abomination that was the Sunflower State twins, thus creating the illusion that a Nebraska lineman would annihilate an NFL defensive tackle the same way they'd blast some 6'1", 230 pound nose tackle from Hiawatha, KS.

I call that "The Big MAC Effect".

I was a walk on back in the early 90's (after 8 years in the Navy)...laugh if you want, most of you weren't even born...
My point in this post is that we had a "combine" type of try-out. It is not new to the Hill...just Coach F let it slide away...Coach M held us in disdain and put us through hell...if you earned your spot, you definately were going to contribute.

The problem was that the NFL had more sophisticated drug testing than the Big 8/12.

Weren't Nebraska's "walk-ons" coming out of a state program where each County was allowed to give 1 full academic University of Nebraska scholarship to any student in the County? Why give away an athletic scholarship when you can give them an academic scholarship. I think the NCAA has closed this loophole since?

Welcome to the board. I was in school there at that time.

Thanks...
Have been browsing the posts in here for a long time...just signed up last year. I rarely have time to post and then follow up...just some subjects need addressing. Anyway, it only took me two years to finish up. I was only able to finish up an A.S. during my service time...being a K'ville native, it was my dream to don the O & W! I had to give it a shot.

As a matter of fact, When I was in High School in K'ville (80-82)...our summer football camps were led by members of the UT squad and for in-state prospects only (Coach M got into a little trouble for that...). The camps were designed around fundamental skill sets and drills that prepared you for the same type of try out. It was gruelling...

Yeah, all of their football scholly's went to out of state guys and everyone in state got the county's scholly.

I gave Rod Wilks my ssn, birthday, and address...

I woke up the next day and found I had $10 mil in a swiss bank acct., a smoking hot chick in bed, and I'm told I'll get 37 virgins on my birthday
