Was talking to a guy in his mid 50s today at the gym.He said he went to UT,and was a huge fan. After talking awhile he said he doesn`t like the song Rocky Top,and that we had a school song, and fight song we could play instead.

I told him a real fan likes Rocky Top.

Since he doesnt do you think he is a true fan,or does his card need taken away?

When would be an appropriate time to accost and take away someone's fan card at the gym?

I would assume the guy keeps it in his wallet in a locker. That's where I would keep mine at the gym.

Just bust it open while he's distracted.

Are you complaining about a fan preferring to listen to "Down the Field"? If anything, every time we hear "Down the Field", we're putting points on the board.

If you are a UT fan and don't like Rocky Top, something is seriously wrong with you.

If he flat out does not like the song, that is one thing. But if he simply prefers the older traditions, then of course he's a Vols fan. Can't hate on him for clinging to the old traditions.

My whole family and I went to UT and are from Knoxville. We are some of the biggest Vol fans around. To me Rocky Top is nothing special. It can be annoying. That doesn't make me any less of a fan than someone who loves it.

I think my dad told me that they didn't really play Rocky Top until like the 80s. So with him being 50 he's probably just more of a traditionalist.

I don't want to know how the OP plans to distract a mid-50s man in the locker room.

True fan. Just cause he doesn't like a song, doesn't mean he is not a true fan. Jmo.

Play the traditional "Down the Field" after the tds and "Rocky Top" after the extra points and FGs. Besto of both worlds.

Really???????LOL
I like it ok at best and I am at least as much a real fan as you.

They've been playing it too much for the past 25 years.

Once or twice a game is plenty

BTW, it is NOT our fight song in any form or fashion

I understand traditionalists, but I love "Rocky Top" as a song, and that's compounded by the fact that it's uniquely Tennessee. Who wants to hear it 50 times a game? I do.

Yes, Rocky Top didn't come out until '67. Most of us grew up with it. He didn't. I don't like the " whew" they added to Rocky Top. I also don't like orange football pants. Dooley's orange pants are great. Go Vols!
