Trooper Taylor leaving for Oklahoma State

exactly. he....all of these guys, will get much more exposure here than at OkState. you could argue that big 12 darilings Texas and Oklahoma get as much or more, but for any of these guys to follow him would be a move down in my opinion. i realize a player can use 5 yrs to play 4 now, but i don't think one can use the "mandatory bench year" as a redshirt. anyone know that for sure?

yeah you can redshirt your bench year

thanks. i may have to put my foot in my mouth at some point, because that would allow some of those freshmen to play 3years for TT there......but it still doesn't make sense to me for them to leave. at least in creer and jones' case, they will definitely be in the spotlight more here.

Trooper's leaving on his own. It's not like we fired him.

From the players prospective, he is being passed over as OC, so he is therefore forced to leave to better himself. They are closer to him than any other coach, so feel similar to a parent leaving home in a divorce.

It was his choice. Nobody asked him to leave.

I wouldn't compare it to a divorce or a firing. It's more like he's leaving his girlfriend b/c she won't do the nasty a certain way, and some people expect his kids to move with him.

Of course not, I said "From the players prospective...." The post is my opinion of why players are talking of leaving due to TT leaving. I made no judgement as to what is right or wrong, good or bad for UT.

That works too, except I didn't say he was fired. Again, looking through the eyes of a student athlete, the feeling is TT is being forced out by not being offered OC. They don't visualize that TT has put himself in that position of promote me or wave goodbye to me.

Does UT currently have an OC? No. Therefore he could not have been passed over. I'd say Oklahoma State wasn't willing to wait all month on Trooper. Taylor didn't want to miss this opportunity by waiting around for Fulmer to make a reasoned decision, so he bolted.

I have to think that TT would much rather be OC at UT over OSU right? So either he has been told by CPF he is out of consideration or he has a strong feeling he is. Thus the feeling of being passed over, if not in fact.

Mike Gundy will be running that offense next year, as he has been the past several years. Taylor was brought in for his recruiting. They've got the offense the way they want it.

I was thinking the same thing when I first read the story; Gundy could have five guys listed as "co-offensive coordinator" and it wouldn't change anything about his offense. The difference is that UT actually needs a real OC, so we can't afford to hand an empty title to someone just because we want them to recruit for us.

Anyone who wants to leave the team because they can't understand the distinction is probably too stupid to be enrolled at UTK anyway.

I never paid too much attention to TT, I wish him well with whatever comes his way and i'm sure his replacement will do a fine job.

Seems like Taylor handled that pretty well. He said pretty much all the right things. Good luck to him.

Let's see quick facts on TT...
17 years as a receivers coach...WTF???
Took a job where EVERYONE knows that the HC runs the offense...???
Was only at one place for no more than 4 years...???

I'm not trying to bash Troop, but it looks and sounds to me that he didn't really want to be OC...

I've found that most people that are "brash" and "showy" (insert chest bump here) are actually somewhat un-confident in themselves...this could be a problem with TT in the future...

In any case, I wish him nothing but good fortunes in the future...:good!:

I know Bamer has co-offensive coordinators and that did not seem to work out to well with them, minus the UT game. Who knows how he will do @ ok state. I wish trooper and his family the best of luck.

Tatum Bell and Adarius Bowman will be a high draft pick this year.

Hey Chavis, not to reign on your parade or anything but Bell has been in the league for about 3 years. Denver drafted him in the 3rd round and then they traded him to Detroit this year for Dre' Bly...
