So what did everyone thinks of the fake FG attempt against Ark? Looked like he was wanted Lane to do a halfback pass a couple of times but the receiver was covered.

I liked it. Open up the offense and give them some plays they aren't expected. Just next time pick some trick plays that will work.

I agree, but Palardy said the Arky players were saying watch for a fake before the play took place.

Trick plays are high risk/high reward. If they work, coach looks crazy like a fox. If they don't, he looks like a dope. Execution and timing are the keys.

For now, I like it. Dooley realizes that he has to make something happen with fake field goals or punts or on-side kicks.

With the talent disparity between UT and other SEC teams, we simply have to have some of these plays work to have a chance. That's why he was willing to call this on the first drive of the game and not take 3 points.

Love the call, it shows that CDD was in it to win it. had that play worked it could have been a different game altogether. I think the tight end didnt sell the fake good enough but it was a great play call!

GBO!!

BTW - Don't think I've ever seen the hook-n-ladder play fail. Can't believe it's not run more in college football

I agree. I like that Dooley coaches to win, even though he realizes he just doesn't have the horses yet.

Hopefully, this trait pays off when UT's talent is fully restocked.

The call was questionable, you can argue it either way. But I can't blame him for trying to get some juice going early in a tie ballgame against a top 10 team.

Looking at it from an opponents perspective, I'm not sure why I wouldn't line up in a standard defense, drop a safety back, and expect a fake every time. It's not like we punt worth a **** anyways.

I'd rather have just lined up for a regular offensive play. That said, I don't mind the aggressiveness.

We don't need trick plays.
We need to master basic smash mouth football and do it consistently.
