Does anyone have video of the tribute by the Aggies to TN during the game Saturday? I've been to many away games and never felt the pride I felt when the Aggies honored our state.

For those who weren't there, they showed a picture of the Alamo and talked about the history of how Davy Crockett went to Texas with 23 Tennessee Volunteers, the most of any state in the union. The narrator said something along the lines of "and as the Mexican army stormed over the walls they perished defending the Alamo. Please stand and honor Tennessee and her sacrifice to the state of Texas."

Everyone stood and cheered. Distant grandson of Davy Crockett was also there. It was really incredible and I've never seen a team honor us in that way.

Also to echo others - fans were top notch. Stadium was top notch. Overall, my favorite away game. Classy fan base and I hope we treat them with equal respect when they come to Knoxville in a few years.

Also, cool side note- one of the fighter pilots who flew overhead during the anthem was a previous TN player and opened his flight uniform to show his TN shirt underneath.

I can remember back in the 70's when we would do stuff like that at home games. We used to almost always play the visiting teams alma mater. For some reason, I seem to remember enjoying the tributes to Georgia tech.

CBS showed the tribute to his distant grandson and did a nice piece on it. It was very similar to what you said. It was very cool and I had no idea Davy Crockett still had living relatives.

I live in Texas and once in a while a Longhorn fan will comment on my UT gear and I always smirk and tell them we are the real UT and that there would be no Texas without a Tennessee.

Our band always plays the visiting team's fight song during the pregame right before Stars & Stripes Forever. Only place I've ever seen that is in Neyland.

I've seen that somewhere else. It might have been ND.

The tribute to Crockett and others was incredibly cool, although I thought they emphasized the sentence "he came to Texas from Tennessee and died fighting for Texas" a bit much. :p

That truly is touching. I was surprised awhile back to find he was never actually called "Davy" or "Davey" but that was just something someone in a band came up with when they wrote a song about David Crockett.

Oklahoma did for our game there (the Pride did not make that trip). Not sure if they always do that like we do, or it was a one off

Here's the guy. I was hoping to do it with my squadron and show off my UT helmet, but these guys beat us to it. They have cooler planes anyway.

The Aggie fanbase does seem very classy and cool and so glad to have them in the SEC.

If, however, that old alleged quote by Davy Crockett be accurate then saluting Davey Crockett may very well NOT be a compliment to Tennessee as it was the NegaVols that made him leave for Texas after they failed to reelect him to Congress.

The oldest form of the quote, insofar as I am aware, is taken from The Niles Weekly, April 9, 1836 (Baltimore MD) where Crockett is alleged to have said;

"A gentleman from Nacogdoches, in Texas, informs us, that, whilst there, he dined in public with col. Crockett, who had just arrived from Tennessee. The old bear-hunter, on being toasted, made a speech to the Texians, replete with his usual dry humor. He began nearly in this style: "I am told, gentlemen, that, when a stranger, like myself, arrives among you, the first inquiry is - what brought you here? To satisfy your curiosity at once to myself, I will tell you all about it. I was, for some years, a member of congress. In my last canvass, I told the people of my district, that, if they saw fit to re-elect me, I would serve them as faithfully as I had done; but, if not, they might go to hell, and I would go to Texas. I was beaten, gentlemen, and here I am." The roar of applause was like a thunder-burst."

So, if there is any veracity to this account then Crockett went to Texas after telling his Tennessee constituency to go to hell. Of course, he could have also been just playing politics in his new homeland lathering up the crowd and whatnot.

It's hard not to like A&M. Classy fans, good opponenet, Tennesse connections. Yet another reason i wish we could do away with the fixed west opponent and go to a rotational scheme.
