Trey Smith out for Spring Practice

I kinda inferred friend. However I know that I personally wouldn't be sharing information about my family with anyone I didnt consider a close family friend.

No, I was agreeing with you.
"Family friend" was said but I removed friend because I didn't think they should have been blabbing it on message boards either if it was told in confidence.

May God bless and comfort him, his family and his friends.

If it be Gods will, may he place his healing hands on him and return him to full health and allow him to play the game he loves so much and has worked so hard to excel at.

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen.

VFL...GBO!!!

I watched a 6.2 220 lb de destroy Mays all night

I have a friend who coaches that kid and can verify. Saw video of the kid whipping Mays over and over.

That being said, I hope Smith makes a full recovery, but if blood clots, could definitely be a career ender. Prayers for him and his family.

I truly hate this for Trey. Really hoping he and his family pull through this without any long term issues.

On the other hand, I think I’ve finally reached the point where bad news (as it pertains to UT football) no longer bothers me at all. Like why wouldn’t this happen. Not one bit surprised. Anyone else feel this way?

You don’t turn around nearly 10 years of bad team culture with guys like Cade Mays. We’re better off without him.

Your first sentence is true enough: one blue-chip player isn't going to turn around a team or its culture all by himself. But no, we're not better off without a consensus top-50 caliber prospect, particularly when the alternative is having him join our toughest divisional opponent. That kind of reasoning is just delusional sour grapes.

It looks like you have been at it a while. Have you considered you're doing it wrong?

The Mays sour grapes needs to end. Trying to bash the guy is just lame. So what if he got occasionaly beaten by smaller guys. I would say Smith did as well sometime in his career. It has zero to do with what he will accomplish at the collegiate level.

I think the voodoo/juju stuff is being brought up facetiously (I hope), but someone should point out that the decline of the football program started when Fulmer turned in Alabama for cheating and then couldn't set foot in the state for a certain time without receiving a summons. Causation? No. Should he have done it? Probably I suppose. But we have been spiraling downward since. Butch's 9-4's don't count; they both should have been so much more.

Yes the Jobu/voodoo references have been running jokes on volnation for a while now. It is usually used in response to "the curse", "we're cursed", "the fulmer curse", "we done been cursed since we fahrd Phil", ect. I think at one time Jobu either has his own personal thread or he took over a thread, fun times.

I'm no doctor - perhaps we'll hear from those on here who are - but risk of further blood clotting could be a life changer for the young man and athlete. Best wishes to Trey for getting the best help/technology medicine can offer.

This reminds me of Lee Otis Burton was was as good as any DT I have ever seen at Tennessee. He was a HS All American from Americus Georgia and played in 1978. He ran down Notre Dame's best running back, Vegas Ferguson, from behind making up about 8 yards in 20 yards of field. Tennessee beat out Ga Tech and Auburn with Bobby Jackson taking the prize recruit for the VOLs. He would have been a sure-fire All American and All Pro if he had not contracted a blood disorder which ended his carrier.
With all the medical improvements which have occurred in the last 40 years, I think Trey has at least an even chance to continue his playing time at Tennessee.

If it's a one-shot problem that the doctors can make go away he should be fine. If he has to go on blood thinners, no more football. I thought technology would have advanced at this point, but apparently Coumadin is still the go-to drug for thromboses. My friend who is a relatively healthy 44 yrs. old is on them now, supposedly for the rest of his life after he developed a blood clot in his shoulder, possibly related to a cycling injury from ten years ago. Also, do we even know for sure it's a clotting problem with Smith?

Hubbs doesn’t seem too concerned on VQ. Says he’ll be fine. Just needs monitoring.
