Trent Richardson vs. Bryce Brown

Let me first say that both of these kids are great backs. I personally am glad we have the one we do. I think he is the better back this far in both of their careers. You are going to say the O line has to do with this but Trent has more yards on less carries. The difference is small but thats all we can really go by thus far. Oh and BB's run doesnt hold a candle to Trents's TD.

They're nothing alike.

If he's half as smart as Emmitt Smith, he will be great. I think Emmitt is underrated. People that say he is overrated are foolish. He's the all time leader in rushing and rushing TD's but most fans don't consider him a top 5 back. That makes him underrated. Yes he had a great line, but the guy was tough as nails, and there has never been a smarter running back. Not to mention dude had all-around skills.

I'm a big Emmit Smith fan, but saying he is one of the smarter running backs is a HUGE stretch. The guy's brilliance was in his vision. He saw the field like few others.

Emmitt just did so many things so well. He was an every down back, and rarely made mistakes. He made the best of what he had. He was too small to stiff-arm so he invented that swipe where he'd knock away the tackler's up-field arm and it was extremely effective in breaking tackles. Cat was smart.

I was lucky enough to see Emmitt break the rushing record at Texas stadium against the Seahawks. I was there for a part of NFL history. Emmitt was and is one of my all time favorite players, even if he did play for UF.

I think it's a bit tough to compare backs during a season of back-up duty. Both backs are gonna be real special IMO. Its tough when you see Ingram getting 20+ carries a game (probably similar numbers for Hardesty), and also Richardson splitting time with Upchurch.

Both are neck and neck right now, but its tough to claim who's better when they are sitting behind Ingram and Hardesty. They don't get to reach their full potential as backup.

This is a fair statement, lets wait a couple of years before we start saying who's what. I know, I know whats the fun in that?

We can always speculate (much as we are now). I mean, thats what message boards are good for, right? Just this is SO hard to compare the two backs right now. There are two different styles. I see Trent coming in like another Ingram. Not blazing speed, but good vision and power. Brown looks to be the speedster. I'm excited to see both of these backs for years to come.

Is this poster serious?

B. Brown with one of the best TD runs of all time? Really? Please tell me you are joking.

I guess you never saw Bo Jackson or Barry Sanders in college? What a joke.

Emmitt was fortunate to of had a great O'line that he could hide behind.

I think Eric Dickerson was a much better back then Emmitt and never had a great line to run behind.

Eric Dickerson 6'3" 220 lbs
8 yrs rushed for 12,439 yds on 2,783 attempts 4.4 yds per carry, 5 seasons with average over 100 yds per game

Emmitt Smith 5'9" 210 lbs
8 yrs rushed for 11,234 yds on 2,585 attempts 4.3 yds per carry, 3 seasons with average over 100 yds per game

Man wish we would have known about that super frosh from Pit (sounds like he was slept on). That kid is special not saying TR and BB are not. Wish we would have recruited him think he would have looked good in Orange.

Who in your opinion is better? I believe it is Brown, but I keep hearing about how great Trent is by some of my friends.

Both are most likely going to end up being great when its all said and done.

Here is a few Trent Richardson highlights for those you haven't seen much of him....

And he has seen limited time also due to Ingram.

Dude is good, but honestly, posting highlights from the N. Texas game is like showing his high school highlights.

Update on their stats. Still a dead heat.

Brown: 92 carries for 434 yards and 3 TDs. 9 catches for 126 yards and 1 TD.

Richardson: 91 carries for 451 yards and 4 TDs. 10 catches for 73 yards and 0 TDs.

Before I looked this up I would have assumed Richardson was outplaying Brown. Richardson has looked amazing at times but Bryce has more than held his own. A slight edge in total yards, tied in touchdowns, and actually tied in total touches at 101.

Wow. Thanks for the update. Very good to know. I'm like you, TR has looked spectacular at times, but I think they have two VERY different running styles.

TR looks to explode through the hole, while BB seems to glide into his lane. I would say that TR LOOKS like the more physical back, but BB ALWAYS falls forward for at least an extra yard so you know the physicality is there.

You talking about his run in the 1st half against Arkansas? That was some of the worst tackling I've ever seen in my life.
Yes. Regardless of team affiliation, where is the line drawn between bad tacking and great balance, power, and speed? When does it move from one to the other? I say that run was a great run...3 or 4 people made contact and he ran through them all and outran a 5th one.

It was a great run. If Bryce did that, they'd be on his nuts.

I've not seen a lot of BB, but, from memory, it seems like he always makes yardage. Too bad we couldn't have gotten him too. :)

Here is the updated Bryce Brown v Trent Richardson spreadsheet. Still dead even yardage wise, though Richardson has one more TD than BB. It's amazing how similar their career stats are thus far.
