I have heard rumors on TOS saying he is a possible hire after the S.B. From a quick look, it seems that he has the recruiting and coaching experience to be a terrific hire. A Superbowl Ring would not hurt either. If this is true, I guess this Years Superbowl is a win win for Vol Fans. Saints win, we get a DC with a Superbowl ring. Colts win and we have a TN Legend with two. Anyone heard this Rumor? GBO

I thought you were supposed to put (RUMOR) in the thread title?

This forum is beyond cluttered with this stuff...

He has been talked about before. Kind of old news.

And very little of it worth a D. This is a discussion board and I think this is worthy of some discussion. A cluttered board is a used board and a used board is a good thing for those who use it and maintain it. Is your browser button broke?

Another UGA alum. Lots of overlap with what C. Smith would bring to the table. Wonder if this hire would rule Smith out even as a D-Line coach.

I saw it on a Wes Rucker tweet last week. I still don't know if I see his value over Sunseri's.

A superbowl ring never hurts in recruiting or experience. I will still be rooting for the Colts however.

I have a feeling CDD already knows who the new DC is and they have already agreed to Chuck Smith being the DL coach.

I assume they are waiting for NSD or for the Superbowl to be over to announce.

Obviously, this is just a feeling but it makes sense.

This makes some sense (even with Chuck Smith)
  • He coached for Saban
  • He has both LB and DL experience
  • He has been recruiting coordinator under Saban
  • He has NFL experience
  • He has coached and been GA to some big names
  • He has connections in schools throughout the south due to his football camps for young players
Dooley likes to work with people he knows, and if our defense is destin to switch to the 3-4 then 2 coaches with DL experience and 2 coaches with LB experience is a REALLY good thing to have. I like this idea:dance2:

That sure makes sense. It would seem highly unusual to hire a DL coach without input or approval from the DC. I think T Jones would be a great hire. He has a pretty good resume.

I am completely satisfied to wait till after NSD.
1)We'll get a better qualified coach.
2)It will be a coach with morals(to help the team he is leaving)
3)I don't think this close to NSD it will sway a top tier talent.(relationships take a year or more to build trust)

Yea. The more I learn about Chuck Smith the more I want him.

I think Jac Smith and Corey Miller can become extra special after a few seasons with this guy.

Hopefully our remaining coaching staff is set (other than maybe a RB coach) and an announcement will come late next week or on Feb 8th.

I can see this guy being a solid hire as a DL coach but not DC. He has no DC experience but lots of DL experience. I think Chuck Smith would be hired as a DL coach before Jones, but I could be wrong.

Charlie Weis had 5 SB rings when he got to Notre Dame - that didn't pan out, so I don't think that has to do with anything
