Trap Game for Hogs

I really, really, hope I'm wrong, but this game won't even be close.

1) It's a bad match up for us ... our D seems to be getting better, but we're not going to be able to handle the O of Arky.

2) If our D can't keep Arky from passing all over the park on us, then we would have to win a shootout, which we cannot.

I'm not a negavol ... just a realist ... but I do hope I'm really wrong, just not getting my hopes up.

But, that's why the teams play the game, and that's why we fans watch'em, cause you just never know.

That's the gospel truth, preach

Arky fans are full of themselves these days. Predicting they'll roll all over the Vols.

The Hogs' SOS (strength of schedule) is 38, which is the lowest in the SEC (Sagarin) except for UK (53). Vols are 9th.

At 8-1, Arky's wins include: Troy, New Mexico, Missouri State, Texas AM (now 5-4), Vandy, Ole Miss, SCar w/out Lattimore. No Gators and No UGA on the Schedule.

They got smoked by the only good team they played -- Alabama 38-14. [Vols lost 37-6 and were tied 6-6 at half.]

The Hogs are bound to be looking past lowly UT and ahead to MSU and LSU to win the SEC-W.

I'm predicting an upset.

Didn't we predict that we would beat Florida. Then we predicted we would beat UGA. Then we predicted we would beat USC. No we predict we beat Ark!!!
My prediction is IF Bray returns on Monday, we will beat Vandy & Ky. then go to a bowl game in Memphis or Nashville and play Houston....... With our defensive backfield, we should do real well against their 60 points per game offense!!!!!

Their strength is Tennessee's weakness. It comes down to getting some kind of pressure on Wilson. They have too many weapons to let him set back there and pick them apart, because he will.

They're not a great team but better than the Vols. Tennessee needs their A game, which we haven't seen, not sure they have one. Play 4 quarters and get some breaks. We need the Hogs to be off on Saturday. They're best will beat us by 2 or 3 touchdowns.

All of this.

I've got to admit, I'm braced for another October type beat down.

But hey, we get Vandy and UK next! (sarcasm)

Well it's very likely. 0-6 in the SEC will be kind of hard to stomach. Loss to Vandy or Kentucky and man the offseason will be a long one. Hopefully these lean years are just about behind us, i'm sick of them.

good logic and i believe arky is overrated at 8th. if we have a decent running game and worley has limited turnovers we will be in this game.

Which A) Arkansas has done a good job protecting Wilson. B) Tennessee hasn't gotten any pressure on the QB.

Yeah thanks for the enlightenment. That's still the only way they don't get boat raced out of that stadium.

We did a great job against SC but every other game wilson has gotten killed. I didnt think he would come out of alabama alive. Maybe its a sign they are getting better though. We did have a true freshman starting at LT

Worley, a true freshman in his third career start on the road against the #8 team in the country.....re-read that line over and over and see if you're still convinced we can pull an upset

Worley won't be an issue.

It's Tennessee lack of a pass rush and then breakdowns in the defensive backfield that loses the game

This is about how I feel, hope for the win and I'll watch every minute, but I don't think we have the firepower to win. Hope I'm wrong!

our biggest strenth defensively if their offensive strenth.. we cant run, true fresh qb.. but gosh darnit why not.. WE WINNING THIS THING!

Our secondary is horrible, luckily for us most of the teams in the conference do not pass well. Our defensive front 7 are going to all have to have career games for us to sneak out with a win. Showing up for four quarters would also improve our chances. They are a second half team and that is when its going to get tough, even if we keep it close to that point.

Considering your well though-out and reasoned response, you must not agree in measuring against common opponents when it's the only metric available.

your quote:
Auburn beat Florida 17-6. Arkansas beat Auburn, 38-14. UGA's only SEC loss was to South Carolina by 2 points, at home. Arkansas beat South Carolina, 42-28, in a game Arkansas could have scored 2 more times.

Since Tennessee lost to both Auburn and South Carolina (2 teams Arkansas dismantled) ..

sorry i didnt go into a lengthy dissertation on Auburn not being on our schedule .. while common opponent is somewhat valid when you take it opp of an opp ( auburn beat fla + ark beat auburn = UT losing to auburn) that really gets to be a stretch .. and you didnt mention alabama, which actually is a common opponent.

Bah...details, details, you can't look for logic in the heart of a fan.:)

It will be about the same as the Alabama game was. Remember that was suppose to be a trap game for them as well. Didnt work out to our advantage.

=======================

But how do you know?

If UT had played Cincinnati 9 times this year, we'd be 7-2 or 8-1. Cincinnati is better than 6 of Arkansas' 9 opponents.

You're giving Cinci a bit too much credit. Arkansas doesn't have much of a defense, but they have offense for days.

Okay my friend. I'll mention Alabama.

The Tide beat Tennessee by 31 points. They beat Arkansas by 24 points.

Tennessee scored 6 points, via 2 field goals. Arkansas scored 14 points, via 2 touchdowns.

Tennessee rushed for 92 yards and passed for 63. Arkansas rushed for 17 yards and passed for 209.

Tennessee allowed Alabama's offense 437 net yards. Arkansas allowed Alabama's offense 397 net yards.

Both Arkansas and Tennessee played at Alabama.

Also worth mention; Arkansas is the only team this season whom scored 2 touchdowns against Alabama, and that includes LSU, whom scored no touchdowns, also at Alabama.

Overall, The Tide, and LSU, are men among boys this season. They've both embarrassed everyone they've played, except each other.
