.....not blu-ray. ftl

Paramount used to release on both, now along with dreamworks, are going HD-DvD only, ouch.

There goes my "blu-ray will take over the world" theory

Blu-ray took the lead, but HD-DVD has laid a few big hits in the last few months.

Affordable dual format players next year = nobody gives a sh!t what format things are on.

Dual format players are garbage. Not even worth it, barely a step above a good regular upconvert.

What the hell are you talking about here? I'm talking a machine that plays BluRay and HD-DVD.

Also, having a 1080p set isn't a must for these things. Sure, that's what the video encoding goes to, but there's obviously great benefits at 720p as well. And besides, in a typical home setup, the difference in a 1080p and 720p set to the human eye in many cases is non-existant if sitting more than 10 or so feet away.

At least the PS3 will spit out 720p nowdays off BluRay. Still can't believe that wasn't in the system on day 1.

Then again, who cares? It's not technology that most people need or want right now. It isn't bringing anything all that new to the table except a slightly better picture. This was not the case with DVDs as they offered extra features, no rewinding after watching, skipping to specific points, etc. Now you're looking at new DVDs which a very small percentage of people can benefit from, and even then, it's too expensive to most.

HDTVs are great and all, but it's still such a small percentage of TVs in use everyday across America.

I'm talking about players that play both formats, and right now, LG's in particular. Dedicated HD players look much better.

But yeah... I usually don't recommend 1080p's to people unless they're picky about their picture.

If you have a regular 720, though, what I'm saying is that there is no reason whatsoever to committ to Blu-Ray or HDDVD. You're obviously not looking for world-class visuals, so you can just plug in a decent upconvert player and get a solid picture.

I have a blu ray and I love it, but I haven't seen an HDMI DVD that will up convert so I don't really know the difference.

Next year I think all TV signals are switching from analog to HD so you might as well get an HD.

At least the prices are dropping for blu rays, im sure it's the same for HDDVDs.

Transformers is just one of those movies I couldn't wait to see in high def. There are a lot of movies on HDDVD (mostly comedies) that I have no problem buying on DVD. Owell, such is life.

So dual ones don't look that good? That sucks, what are the prices for those?

Question. I use my LCD monitor to hook up my 360 and I use a VGA cable. I order movies in hi def. Will a hi def dvd work on the vga?

If you have the HDDVD drive for the 360, the it will carry the signal to the LCD no problem, not sure how it translates to 720 or 1080 however.

im really not that smart

VGA will allow the upcoversion of DVD up to 1080p as well as showing HD-DVD movies up to 1080p.

Component will not do either of those. You can game in 1080p with component cables.
