If you were a highly rated recruit in your first or second year on the team, and you saw the dumpster that is UT football, would you consider entering the transfer portal before the UGA game so this would only count as a redshirt year? If it were me and I wanted to stay, it would be hard to imagine the coaches that recruited me still being here throughout my time in Knoxville, there seems little hope of the next recruiting class staying intact as we are looking at a 3-4 win season, and I don’t know if we’ll ever go to a bowl game while I’m here. If I transfer now, I could get a fresh start with coaches that probably will be there throughout my career and maybe get higher than 15 wins during my college career. While I want all our Vols to stay and weather this storm, I also wouldn’t blame them for deciding to get off the sinking ship and play for a coach that wouldn’t quit on them.

If you were a freshman at UT right now, would this be something you would consider?

I think it makes more sense the other way. The dumpster fire is more about the upper classmen than the freshmen. After a 1-3 start and the outlook, a bowl looks out of the question so if I am CJP, I am playing for the future from here on out and some of the upper classmen may be the ones playing less unless they are significantly better.

OP you may have something there. I could certainly understand why some would want out. Particularly ones with pro ambitions.
