Transfer Portal DB's....

I don't dislike him, I'm just not real optimistic about someone who didn't stand out much against ACC competition doing better in the SEC. Maybe he surprises though, it could happen.
Is he better than what we currently have is the question? It would be nice to get an elite DB but likely that isn’t going to happen in the portal. Getting someone that doesn’t give up huge yardage plays would help tremendously. Elite would be awesome but honestly mediocre would help at that position at this point.

A solution to our dilemma has been found. It's being hush-hushed at this time to prevent our opponents from duplicating our actions. In conjunction with Josh Heupel, UT boosters, and Danny White, the University of Tennessee has employed the services of Brigitte Boisselier the founder and CEO of Cloneaid. The plan is to use the accelerating process to quick clone a minimum of four Eric Berrys to fill immediate needs in the Vols defensive backfield. You will be seeing the results three weeks hence. Do not discuss this with anyone on or off this forum. It's a national and Vols security matter. WoodsmanVol, wanders the outer fringes of reality and sanity, forever lost.

Saban tapped into this in 2019. Hate to burst a bubble.

I mentioned in my original post that unless they are starting material at any SEC school. bringing in a body just to have depth doesn't really help us.

Also, no one has shown me where the difference maker at DB is for us in the portal that will miraculously add a win to our record this year. I haven't seen one.

There are ZERO absolutes post ONE TIME as to the talent level available. Great athletes can be stuck behind other great athletes. Could be stuck in a bad scheme. Could be a talented guy wanting to step up in class. Could be a guy not liking a HC or position coach move. Just like the high school there is an array of talent and it will only get stronger as Hooker and jones stories here and elsewhere incentivize GREENER GRASS risk/reward decisions. If we continue trending up our menu will get better and the space will be there by guys leaving for similar fit reasons.

Again, where is the portal DB that will save our season?

That's the point I'm trying to make here. We can't depend on the portal to solidify one of the hardest spots to play in the SEC, especially for someone who would be first year in the system. Second year portal players are almost always better and make the team better, just like a sophomore out of HS would as well. It would take a starter at the SEC level to come in and make the secondary instantly better, but those type of players at the DB position aren't out there currently.

So, until we get THAT defensive back(s), work on the pass rush. There’s two ways to attack the pass.
