Transfer Portal 22-23

Yep. This makes Justine a big loss, IMO. Not worth losing her if Strickland is her replacement. Not disrespect to her.

And if we don't add anyone else, BK will be a significant loss too. Even though she couldn't shoot, she proved her freshman year that she had the speed disrupt ball handlers in the SEC.
This make me think Justice left because of something else and not because of who we was bringing in.

Athleticism is too often used as a crutch for lack of skill. You don't have to be the most athletic player to be a good (even great) defender. They can be taught to play defense primarily with their feet, not their hands. But I do hope Kellie overhauls her offense to take advantage of shooters so that they are really earning their time on the court.

I agree. The biggest issue, though, is we haven't seen that from any of players on the team that lack athleticism - esp against elite competition. Their ability to contribute what they do best doesn't outweigh poor defense, which is largely due to lack of speed/athleticism.

I'm also with you in hoping for an overhaul on offense. I thought that would the case last year when Kellie reported they spent most of their time on offense during preseason . . .

They don't play great team defense, to be honest. Even some of the more athletically gifted players (Hollingshead) get lost on defense. Much like the offense, I think it's as much a system issue as a personnel one.

Pardon me for interrupting the Gloomin and doomin but...

Brooklyn was always going to be the 3rd or probably 4th option. She would have been a nice depth player to have but not a big loss as long as Wells and Powell are available. Wynn will slot into that role quite and she has more size and overall potential than Brooklyn. For those clamoring for Edie to get a shot, the door is open.

Don't know enough about Strickland's game to comments. Her freshman stats at Pitt were decent but not earth shattering. Whatever is going on with Justine (who could still stay put), I doubt it has much to do with this transfer.

I don’t think USC is a good fit for her game. For me I think LSU or UNC. If SC wants her she’d be crazy not to though.
SC seems like it would be great for her. With Cardoso under the basket, she could basically play the Herbert-Herrigan role and have all the open 18 foot jump shots that she wants. That if anything is what they've been missing the last 3 years: a scoring threat from the high post who didn't need to be in the paint.

I really wonder did we reach out to her, I don’t care if we don’t get her, but it’ll make me feel better if we at least tried! 😩
We'll know once we find out which schools are her finalists. If it's something like Iowa, SC, LSU, UConn, etc..., we know it's because she's chasing a NC. Wouldn't matter who reached out to her if she already knew what she was looking for.

I’m sure Dawn would take her. But at that risk, def could see one of those highly rated posts transferring already on roster for them

Yup, that's true. Probably Feagin or Watkins. But truthfully, Morrow is better than either, so it might be worth it. The transfer portal is definitely gonna change player/coach loyalties because of the shiny new toys that are constantly showing up.

Its all a crapshoot. You never know what your roster will look like from year to year between NIL and the portal now. All you can do is try to recruit as well as you can and hope you can keep everyone as happy as possible but the musical chairs of rosters is upon college athletics now.

I'm sure Watkins and Feagin are very good but they don't have that experience or body of work Morrow has. I guess we will see what happens
