Trade Wars and Tariffs

I'm asking what the difference is???? Why the lag on one instance and not the other... And again other then energy attack by Biden, Trump had an entire year of supply chain issue and dropping free money on the economy. It seems to me that the attack on energy is a bigger cause of inflation then these tarriffs....
And I told you the premise if your statement is the response time is the same. And I’m waiting on you to prove that premise that isn’t my burden to bear.

I haven't seen skyhigh prices at the store. but construction has been gutted by this. It was already precarious with the interest rates; but the tariffs have killed 3 construction projects at my firm, and put another 2 on hold until they get stabilized.

those 5 are direct from the client quotes blaming the tariffs for why they decided to stop their projects. there have been other projects halted that haven't directly blamed tariffs.

I think you will see similar "straw that broke the camels back" type situations emerging elsewhere as they drag on that do impact consumers. I know Nintendo listed the tariffs as part of the reason their prices went up. so its not like there is no evidence of consumer goods being impacted.

I am seeing the same thing on the owner's rep side of things, perhaps not so much in the form of projects being shelved outright, but instead with pricing coming in significantly higher (not to mention an uptick in change order requests for unforeseen costs related to the continuous tariff churn).

It's a house and pole barn we're building so nothing close to a commercial development but so far just about everything is coming in under budget for us. SO FAR.

Fingers crossed that trend continues for y'all!

What I've been seeing is with the tariff fluctuation, it seems like the uncertainty is what's partly driving or deferring cost increases until the project is underway, and some contracts allow for treating the tariff-related price escalation as an unforeseen (eligible for a change order, etc).

pretty much every non-public contract we are seeing now includes that. its funny how it always works like appraisals. the COs come out when the prices get jacked up higher. but they don't come around at all if the prices drop due to the same causes.

Nobody is going to a zero reciprocal. It’s a clear cut tax the fed can take. The investment in growth is what I am more looking towards. Would be nice to get some Honda/toyota global platforms made here instead of just NA stuff like the pilot.
Getting any global production here is asking for a lot given our costs and location.

The tariff threats gave us the heebie jeebies and we almost canceled the build. Fortunately our contractor worked with us and we were in the position to buy most of our materials on the front end, even purchased all of our appliances. I doubt you can do that on a years long construction project.

Lol. The importer pays the tariffs which is what I’ve always said. And regardless of Bessett’s lying (yes he knows who actually pays them he’s the only one with a brain) he actually avoided the basis of the question. For some reason Bessett completely ignored GM’s quarterly earnings report why do you think that is?

And the deflection by Zerohedge is classic for that 💩 site too 😂

Keep hustling and moving that water jmac 😂
