And energy prices have been down a bit, but have ticked up some recently. Nothing that’s been a “shock”, so to speak. There are no tariffs on crude oil imports.
Oil, natural gas and refined product imports exempted from new US tariffs
going off of memory so I may not have the names or dollars right,What govt dollars?
An 'end justifies the means' statement typically implies sanctioning illicit actions; negotiating with adult leaders of other nations isn't that. You chose an odd term to characterize your dissatisfaction with his tariff actions.I don’t really see another way to interpret this quote from you.
And as far as nations not ignoring us to date there are a total of two agreements. The UK one seems worse to be that prior to the turmoil. On Vietnam we keep hearing touting of 0 tariffs into Vietnam however it’s 20% coming into the US. That impacts the price of those goods to consumers.
The only good item I’ve seen from all of this is the trans shipping tariffs on Vietnam. That targets China largely and that is who we should be going after. In over 3 months that single item is it.
I think the primary error was promising 90 deals in 90 days, but I don't care about the 90-day timeframe. Or even necessarily 90 deals. This time next year and 45 deals that strategically and economically benefit the U.S. would be fine with me. That's what I "lend support to". I'm just not interested into climbing into the frothing bath water daily, just as I don't day trade equities. The strategy, or lack there of, is indicative of a not so capable team. Good God man, I know Trump isn't formulating anything about these chaotic and incompetent negotiations.
You apparently didn't comprehend my post. How much real world, first hand experience do you have negotiating pricing with international trade partners? To lend support of the current process would indicate you have no experience and thus no understanding of proper negotiations.
There is no strategy with this group. The rates change with the wind. There are seemingly no real timelines. There has been absolutely no prudence in any of these negotiations. It's heightened incompetency. It's nice you're taking "prudent" approach, but seriously that's just your tribalism kicking in without any sound reasoning.I think the primary error was promising 90 deals in 90 days, but I don't care about the 90-day timeframe. In addition to not having been in charge of U.S. foreign/economic policy, I haven't coached a P5 program, commanded a nation's armed forces, or formed political and economic models that entire cross-sections of the globe have adopted and war over. But I have some opinions on all of them.
Which is why I don't employ logical fallacies such as argument from authority. The Trump team is attempting something no one else has. I'm taking a prudent wait and see approach. For some reason that bothers some people, people who also have no experience negotiating from the U.S. cabinet.
Silly, baseless comment; tribalism would have me cheering the Japanese $1T investment deal instead of questioning why they're on the Aug 1 tariff list. I'd be touting the non-inflationary effect (thus far) instead of thinking that too, may be premature. There is no strategy with this group. The rates change with the wind. Trump has absolutely no clue as to what he is doing.
Yes. He is terrible for this country. We need someone who will come in and open our borders, remove the tariffs so we get screwed over, expand all government programs, flood USAID, NPR, and PBS with $, reinstate DEI policies, and nominate judges based on gender and skin color. There is no strategy with this group. This was specifically about tariffs. Grow up and be a man for once in your life.Yes. He is terrible for this country. TDS is real folks.
I'm not debating you. From the beginning, I was trying to explain to you why Trump's strategy has been fundamentally wrong from the outset of negotiations.Silly, baseless comment; tribalism would have me cheering the Japanese $1T investment deal instead of questioning why they're on the Aug 1 tariff list. You might question your own motivation while you authoritatively presuppose something whose conclusion is unknown. If he can substantially better U.S. position, the only people who'll care that it was messy are people who wanted him to be wrong, and/or who wanted to appear right.
It's just like you to argue about a subject matter for which you have no formal education or first hand experience with someone who does have the formal education and first hand experience. Go back and read my posts throughout this thread. I've thoroughly explained why Trump is incompetent negotiating international trade deals.Bring it Bernie. What is a man? Can you define it? Are you one? If you make that claim you gotta have some authority on the topic. Please show us what a big man you are

That you must use the "TDS" excuse exposes your petulant discourse
