Trade Wars and Tariffs

BRICS+. Brazil is awfully cozy with China, Russia, and Iran. One of those has leaders openly calling for Death to America.
So US consumers should pay 50% more for goods from Brazil because they are part of BRICS?

Or US consumers should pay 50% more for goods from Brazil because Brazil is prosecuting Bolsonaro for attempting a coup?

The Bolsonaro angle is just typical MSM’s attempt to spin the story. They’re emphasizing whatever is most appealing to their sheep.

All tariffs aren’t for the same reason. In this case I’d think it has more to do with being a founding member of the BRIC coalition which has an agenda at odds with freedom living countries.

US consumers aren’t going to pay 50% more. Just look at the posts immediately above yours.

😂 You don't get it at all. Hilarious.

Brazil exports $50 billion to the US. Mostly ag, oil, and commuter airliners. US consumers would barely be affected. But that’s another $25 billion to the Treasury. Maybe Starbucks will have to add a dollar to their $8 cups of coffee.

We need to reconfigure our refineries anyway. We shouldn’t be importing any foreign oil. We’re a net exporter and ought to refine what we’re pumping out of the ground instead of exporting it and importing the sour crap.

I’d like to see the details. I think that it’s more likely that aircraft will be carved out. I’ll be surprised if Embraers are exported to the US with a 50% tax (tariff). If it sticks it creates an opportunity for us to build commuters here.

Doesn’t it say “due IN PART”? Which is my point. The MSM is emphasizing a minor aspect and all but ignoring the major issues. Because Trump.

And the first sentence in the letter isn't about BRICS, or trade deficits, or free speech it's "leave Bolsanoro alone!!!!"

Odd that MAGA now supports the US meddling in the criminal justice systems of other countries.

Even more odd that MAGA supports the idea that US consumers should pay more for goods in order for the US to meddle in the justice systems of other countries.

the extra tariff revenue only helps if we do something productive with it. given Trump has done pretty much nothing to reduce waste or increase efficiency, this is just more waste.

regardless of who pays it, end consumer, or business profit, its a drag on the economy. another "cost" of doing business that leaves less money for other things. but yay Uncle Sam can afford to give Boeing an extra 500 billion dollars to NOT send someone into space. "winning"

I am really getting a huge laugh out of the “yay the Fed revenue is going up” narrative while completely ignoring that somebody/some company within the US has to be paying these tariffs. To your point it’s money removed from the economy and going to the federal government. Even if somehow magically the end cost remains the same. And we have now over $37T reasons why to expect it’s just going to get pissed away.

even if the foreign companies just eat the profit loss, that is profit they would pay taxes on.

I am willing to bet at years end you see a draw back on the "income" taxes foreign companies pay. I doubt it will offset the tariff "gains", but I am willing to bet its less. so there is definitely some robbing Peter to pay Paul going on.

The I in BRICS is India. Brazil trades with Iran, so what? We trade with Russia and PRC.

I know that the “I” in BRIC is for India. One of the original 4. Iran is a member of “BRICS+” as I’ve indicated.

BRIC, BRICS, BRICS+ isn’t simply a trading block. Their agenda includes doing damage to the US economy.

It's mainly a trading bloc. They don't do much beyond that.
What is their agenda to harm the US economy?

Replacing the dollar as the reserve currency for one. They’re free to pursue that. We don’t need to assist them with their economy by selling them energy or buying anything from them. They’re also Team China. We’re at war with the CCP. F*** all of them.

Do you have first hand, real world experience with international trade? Have you ever negotiated on behalf of a US company to purchase from and sell to international trade partners?
