Trade Wars and Tariffs

Weak sauce, Juicebox.

The $2.8 trillion raised to pay down the deficit is revenue from taxpayers who are paying the duties on imported goods.

So, yeah, we can lower the budget deficit by effectively paying higher taxes.

Duuuuuuuuuuuh.
I thought you socialists hate lower taxes?

This coming from the guy that just shrewdly negotiated a China deal that basically puts us back to where we started with the exception of 55% tariffs to be paid by US companies and consumers? I realize Bessent is largely just parroting his boss’s narrative but if he actually believes that post then he’s a moron.
have to keep up

Like I said. Same as before the tariff idiocy with the addition of tariffs increased to 55% on US companies and consumers

And very similar to the UK deal which was also better than before the tariff idiocy. And I find you dropping tweets claiming otherwise to be hilarious and right on message for you 😂

This is hilarious as several of us predicted the tariff trade idiocy will be a massive failure but there will be DJT tweets claiming it’s the best trade deals ever and we’d see the water carrying effort here preaching that message 😂🤡
It's been a real clown show. The strategy, or lack of it, has been chaotic and incompetent. They negotiate in a reactionary and DISTRIBUTIVE manner when they should be negotiating in a planned INTEGRATED manner. You obviously know the difference. The Trump humpers have no clue what I am talking about. 🍿

Oh I don’t know Jack about effective negotiation techniques it’s not in my wheelhouse. However even with my lack of knowledge I can tell the difference between a trade imbalance and a reciprocal tariff. The geniuses that created the initial ridiculous tariffs (those poor penguins 😂) can’t even manage that small difference.

The US-UK trade deal seems to favor the US slightly more, with $6B in tariff revenue and $5B in new exports like beef and ethanol. The UK secured lower tariffs on 100,000 cars (from 25% to 10%) and a steel/aluminum free trade zone, likely saving jobs. —both sides gained, though US agricultural and revenue wins may outweigh UK’s. Hard to judge definitively without full economic data, but it looks balanced overall.

This is really a topic for trade/tariff thread, but my point is that China does a lot of trade apart from the US, and we don't control its destiny.

That’s why you strengthen trade with everyone else and move away from China as a group. We have a major impact on their destiny. Especially if we combine our economic power with that of the EU and Canada.

Pre covid we were 21.6% of their exports. Today it’s still about 15%. That’s massive by itself.

by tariffing everyone, and signing worse trade deals than what existed before?

Literally the opposite of what I said. “That’s why you strengthen trade with everyone else”.
but that is what Trump is doing.

and don't forget ticking off a lot of these people to the point where China is getting new, better trade deals out of his approach.

I’ve never defended his trade policy. I’ve spoken out about it several times on here. The only thing I defend is tariffs on China (and others like Iran or Russia).

Who was predicting hyper-inflation?

And the number (1.2%) he attributes to the BLS is half of what the BLS is actually reporting (2.4%). If you take out food and energy, it's 2.8%.

Bro, Zerohedge lies.

Dems are predicting hyperinflation..over 10%

the only thing I can see is he took the 1% increase of inflation in May annualized it to 1.2% ....but I'm not sure.

If they are unqualified, how did they get confirmed?

You are a smart guy so dont act dense. The Rs in the Senate approved a guy that marketed fraudulent tax credits to lead the IRS. The Ds approved some absolute incompetent people when they were in charge..

So the red line for approval is somewhere between fraud (Long) and allegedly banging teenagers (Gaetz)....
