Trade Wars and Tariffs

Catch 22. The Brits stole your national resources wealth, but you did not have civil unrest and civil wars.

Don't forget the agriculture component as well. Running off all the farmers who know how to work the land, confiscating the land, and handing it over to people who don't know how to farm on a large scale was a misstep that took some time to play out. In the end, it's all about tradeoffs.

I hope this is true.

Long term, I can hope so, too. Short term, I do wonder, where I am gonna get affordable stuff for my kids if the US manufacturers (who I would rather buy from) don't even have the machinery to make the stuff I need/want to buy for my kids right now? (and might not, for the next 18 months or so...)

Take the good with the bad, I guess. 🤷‍♀️

Well, I should clarify. If a sucker is willing to buy it, its worth that amount.
This reeks of FOMO when a bunch of us have made quite a bit of money by trading.

Out of curiosity, how are the values of gold or diamonds determined, in your opinion? Have you ever traded commodities? Do you know what drives stock prices? Or Vegas betting markets?

I prefer traditional stocks because I genuinely like to limit my screen time to video games, guitar tablature, and arguing on the internet, but a good chunk of crypto can be so lucrative after developing an understanding of publicly traded tech.

I would guess you've enjoyed the opportunities of the last couple of months, then. These huge swing cycles only come around every so many years, but the gains are really fun. Maybe consider a nice iRacing setup with your profits?

I'm about to have two in college and a 3rd with a very expensive extra-curricular activity.... but there's still a little gravy for a cool new gun or guitar in there.

My good friends are racers/car guys/pilots and have tried to get me into i-racing. I would consider blowing some crypto profits on a premium MSFS setup. The new one looks so amazing.

I remember the first flight simulator. If it was that fun on mouse/key, I froth at the thought of the newest one on a high end control setup with a 4k tv.

I've always been a fan of pilot games. I mean, what is better to immerse yourself in from a gaming perspective? There just isn't as much development there as could be possible. The Ace Combat series is good, and I've recently been playing some of the Star Wars Squadron game. I've seen VR setups that look very cool, but i haven't taken the plunge beyond an Oculus. I just don't have the time to really invest in video games right now without sacrificing other interests.

You haven't looked into the new MS Flight Sim? There's a thread in the gaming forum with some mind-blowing pictures.

🙂 It’s good to see you have your priorities in order.

Yeah, one of my best friends really enjoys it. Like I said, I just don't play much. I might check it out this summer. The new 360 VR flight sim products might steer me into blowing some free evening hours.

I decided to divert more of my free time away from things like reading and arguing with nonsense posters on social media this year. Working on the banjo and really enjoying that, but it's been a challenge. Advancing my Spanish. New workout and tweaks to the diet. Growing my business. Alittle more golf. Trying to find more time to spend with friends. I even picked up a fiction book series to read this summer that my dad recommended... not really my style but could be nice by the pool and at the beach. Even thinking about my first tattoo...I do have a big birthday coming up.

Are you inviting me to get matching tattoos because I'm getting some seriously mixed signals here.

Unfortunately, not an option. I've been talking to an artist and translator that actually design and commission one of a kind pieces -- like paintings.

I know, I'm old and getting sentimental. But you will understand one day

I'm not stranger to one of a kinds. My stripes were etched into me in the middle of a jungle by someone who only speaks a dead language!
