Trade Wars and Tariffs

If the focus on helping kids read instead of protesting, we'd have a better country... maybe
Remind us of the states with the worst records on education.

Peacefully protesting by either side is one of the purist forms of patriotism. Has no effect on reading and comprehension. Totally unrelated

I am sure most that have a 401K have investments in tech..where is the outcry for these loses?
With friends like these, who needs enemies.

So you are using trump's behavior as an example of what WAS accepted the left, but is NO LONGER accepted by the left... but is CURRENTLY accepted by the right. Checks out.
I'm using his past behavior as was accepted by the left....and his generally accepted by both parties as rich people are able to get away with a lot...but when he was cutting check for the DNC y'all didn't give AF what was happening as long as the checks cleared...the minute he stopped donating all hell broke loose..

I'm not sure who this "y'all" is.

I'm simply for decency, maturity, coherent thought, and, for those charged with public service, to take that public service seriously. Which is why I've been anti-trump from day 1.

I'm guessing the last 4 years must have been pretty traumatic for you then.

Something I’ve noticed, it’s pretty much the same people freaking out over the tariffs and stock market that was screaming for masks and shutting things down when Covid started.

Something I've noticed is that the people "freaking out over the tariffs and stock market" are the same people who are worried about the effect of Trump's terrible judgment on their finances.

(1) It's the working class that bears the brunt of the tariffs.

(2) How does putting tariffs on coffee from Brazil or vanilla from Madagascar end the "globalist order"? Are we going to start growing those things in Indiana?
how many people in the working class own stocks or have a great amount of money invested? if they listened to the leftist media and sold their stock that is their problem. I'm retired living solely off my stock/bond portfolio and not losing a wink of sleep. there were big drops in the stock market when Biden was President, where was all the hand wringing from the left back then?

tarriffs on small countries can create free trade with those countries. And how is putting a tarriff on small countries with small economies going to collapse the economy of the US as the left claims they will do?

Hanson's oversimplification and populist rhetoric plays well to the Fox news echo chamber and provides MAGAs all the confirmation bias you need to disregard the reality that you are living.
VDJ hit the nail on the head with what is going on with leftist media selling fake gloom and doom.

Trump is only doing what he promised to do and what people voted for him to do

I can't think of anyone who voted for Trump because they thought he'd throw us into a major recession and cause $9 trillion in lost value to the economy. In fact, I don't recall him promising to wreck the economy, at all.

“America’s most recent experiment with protectionism was a disaster for the working men and women of this country. When Congress passed the Smoot-Hawley tariff in 1930, we were told that it would protect America from foreign competition and save jobs in this country- the same line we hear today. The actual result was the Great Depression, the worst economic catastrophe in our history, one out of four Americans were thrown out of work. Two years later, when I cast my first ballot for President, I voted for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who opposed protectionism and called for the repeal of that disastrous tariff.

Yet today protectionism is being used by some American politicians as a cheap form of nationalism, a fig leaf for those unwilling to maintain America’s military strength and who lack the resolve to stand up to real enemies-countries that would use violence against us or our allies. Our peaceful trading partners are not our enemies; they are our allies. We should beware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends—weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world—all while cynically waving the American flag. The expansion of the international economy is not a foreign invasion; it is an American triumph, one we worked hard to achieve, and something central to our vision of a peaceful and prosperous world of freedom.”

President Ronald Reagan; 1988 Free Trade Address

Were you anti Clinton, the home wrecker Harris, Obama the killer, bish the war monger...I'll bet you voted for 3 if not all 4 on them with your superior morals.. id you were for all that you wouldn't be chiming in the PF as there is very little to none of that in politics..

When people were voting for cutting the size of government..what did you think would happen??? Seriously just by cutting the job alone will mess with an already weak and fledgling economy..he hasn't even been in 90 days to let things happen..price are going down slowly..they didnt skyrocket overnight like happened with Biden...but at least now when the Dem het back and tax your unealized gains, you won't have as much tax to pay
...Trump say your welcome
