Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

Olney: Source: Phillies have done background work on Carlos Quentin, who could be middle-of-the-order bat they covet

Still unlikely #Rays trade Shields. But #Reds are deep enough in prospects that they at least stand a chance. #tradedeadline #MLB

I like Shields over Jimenez too.

“It appears that nothing will happen with Pence now and the Astros will look to trade him in the offseason instead, reports Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.”

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't trade for a guy who has missed almost two months with a concussion.

It's officially official. Carlos Beltran is a part of the San Francisco Giants.

Must be, because what they are doing makes no sense.

I think, in their ideal scenario, they'd trade for Upton, sign Fielder this offseason, and have Harper win the RF job next spring. Oh yeah, get Strasburg back healthy as well. That would be one hell of a team.

Upton CF
Harper RF
Zimmerman 3B
Fielder 1B
Werth LF
Espinosa 2B
Ramos C
Desmond SS (Though he'd probably be involved in the
Upton deal, so insert some random FA SS)

Strasburg
Zimmermann
Lannan
Marquis
Hernandez

The back of that rotation won't scare anyone, and I don't have a clue as to what else they have in the minors, nor what will be on the free agent market, but they are building a solid team there.

IF that were to play out, that would be a nice start for a pretty good team

They aren't getting Fielder, but they don't exactly have a hole at first anyways. Morse has been awesome.

Morse has been great, but I don't think he fits in their long-term plans at 1B. They've shown with the Werth deal that they're not afraid to spend money. Landing spots for Prince are limited: Cubs, Dodgers, Brewers, Cards perhaps if Pujols leaves (doubtful). Nats may pony up big time.

I think the Giants get either Fielder or Reyes in the off season. Apparently they are willing to make a big splash.

I'd put them more on Reyes, IMO. They have first base options in house. None on the level of Fielder of course, but a Reyes type leadoff man they do not have at all.
