Andre Carson: Tea party wants blacks 'hanging on a tree' - Jake Sherman - POLITICO.com

A top lawmaker in the Congressional Black Caucus says tea partiers on Capitol Hill would like to see African-Americans hanging from trees and accuses the movement of wishing for a return to the Jim Crow era.

Rep. Andre Carson, a Democrat from Indiana who serves as the CBC’s chief vote counter, said at a CBC event in Miami that some in Congress would “love to see us as second-class citizens” and “some of them in Congress right now of this tea party movement would love to see you and me ... hanging on a tree.”
wow, surely he just got caught up and didn't really mean that...

The explosive comments, caught on tape, were uploaded on the Internet Tuesday, and Carson’s office stood by the remarks.

guess not

It's like the CBC wants people to think that the TP an all-white, hate mongering, reincarnation of the Klan or something (see also, Maxine Waters's and Sheila Jackson-Lee's recent comments). I'll go out on a limb and predict that this strategy fails and hopefully backfires.

]Between the "hostage" talk, Maxine Waters' "go to hell" and crap like this, it's hard to not to at least consider that there's a coordinated effort here.

It's absolutely coordinated - TP is intransigent, holding America hostage and vile racists.

In other words, they need a wedge issue, so they are going to make an actual inanimate chunk of the electorate the wedge issue.

Yep. We already saw it in Obama's speech yesterday blaming "gridlock" in Congress as the reason the economy isn't better. Forget the 2 years of D control of Congress and Exec.

IMO when you start shouting down random groups of people as racist then you've already lost. You no longer want to discuss the actual issues and want to force the other side to defend themselves from the attack.

It's sad that our elected officials are now starting to join in

My poli-sci professor nearly laughed me out of class when I suggested the Democratic black caucus was conspiring to unfairly paint the T-party as racist (after Obamacare passed and they marched through the T-partyers who supposedly said the n-word at least 18 times, but nobody caught it on camera).

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this is obvious.

I lost a lot of respect for Congressman Lewis after that incident.

I think it would be rather difficult not to talk politics in a political science class.

Okay here's a chance for those against the TP. The mantra has been since the TP isn't shouting down the minority of members that are racist then they are in effect condoning the position.

The President is leader of the Democratic Party and the country. Should he not condemn this incendiary and uncivil language? Particularly since that is his official position. If he does not condemn it strongly is he in effect condoning these comments and similar ones by Waters, Jackson, etc.?

This is a problem in this country right now. You are as divisive as the CBC guy. The manner in which you are referring to your fellow Americans as they and us.

Just how many African Americans are in the Tea Party?

Can you prove the underlined statement please? Your not honestly saying him using the words "They" & "Us" as a comparison to someone who is sensationalizing & intentionally lying and making the false claim about executing another based on their race areyou? you can't be serious?

To the last question i do not know how many consider themselves in the Tea party but African Americans and, any one else for that matter, that is for fiscal responsibility, limited government and constituional principals are certainly free to join the Movement.

By the way Just how many white folks are in the black congressional caucus? Hmmm...seems "divisive".

Here is an interesting article that seems relevant to the conversation.
