Total Lunar Eclipse

This eclipse recreates one that saved Christopher Columbus in 1504. He was stranded without food on the coast of Jamaica when the inhabitants started to become hostile. Using his astronomical almanac that was compiled by a German mathematician, he saw that a lunar eclipse would happen soon. He warned them that if they did not cooperate, he would make the moon disapear. The eclipse happened and the inhabitants gave him and his crew all the food they needed and begged to bring the moon back. Read that somewhere and thought it was very neat.

Columbus was a genocidal bigot who deserves nothing in the form of any praise.

Columbus day is not recognized in Taos NM for obvious reasons. Native Americans and Islanders don't see him as such a good guy. No argument here.

Cloudy in Colleyville, TX, too. I got to see it through a break in the clouds. Pretty cool.

off and on clouds here, the moon was a really bright gold color for awhile. Still hoping to see a break in the clouds and seeing the famed blood red color it sometimes gets during a lunar eclipse

Beautiful views of the eclipse here. The skies were very clear...you could see Regalus and...the planet (was it Saturn or Venus?) well. Very nice.

It was Saturn. They said you could possibly see the rings if you had a telescope. Sucks that it was cloudy here. Not another one for a couple years.
