Total Denial....

Ok. A 3 man rush with a spy (Weathered) on the QB. MISTAKE BY COACH...BAD CALL

Zone by our secondary. Bad call, bad execution?

Bad call, why would you go into zone there? You blitz and play man and make a red shirt freshman make a play with the game on the line. Instead we give him all day to find a receiver 20 yards down field.

2 strikes against the coach / call.

Im not a coach. i am a fan. But the assignment, discipline, technique, and pursuit look very lax.

A buddy just sent me this. Sigh. Love ya Butch, but a little brutal honesty would be nice right about now.

To be brutally honest, the team isn't where you want it to be at this point. Yours and others failure to recognize that is an issue, however there really isn't much Jones can do about it but stay the course. He knew coming in, as in any coaching job, it would be a race to appease the fan base and primarily the donors and administration long enough to build a program. The sort of impatient nonsense we are seeing now was expected.

Prevent defense is mostly only used in hail mary situations its to keep the ball in front of the DB's to keep them out of the end zone so I have no idea in hell what he was doing there.

Are you talking actual hail mary passes (such as byu vs nebraska)?

Strictly speaking, Butch is right. If Medley hooks that FG a few more feet to the left we win. So then the coaches would have coached well enough for us to win.

That doesn't mean they coached well enough to give us our best chance of winning.

Yeah Butch is in denial because he couldn't stop a 4th and 14 play that went 60 yards for a TD.
Defense lost us the game.
It's so easy to blame Butch for a loss. But I might as well jump on board since everyone is doing it, it's cool!

But the issue is the players need to be put in a better situation so they will win these games. The first half the Vols did everything it took to get the lead in both the Oklahoma & Florida games. We have to play with that pedal to the metal til the end no matter what the entire game. Our players played their azzs off. They won this game for us. The coaches have to go all out with that same mentality that we will do what ever it takes with no fear at all like our players do. If they (the coaches) do that VOL NATION WILL ONLY GET STRONGER even if we lose. If we do lose, we need to down swinging & fighting(like our players) not screaming & ducking (like Butch)

5 for 5 on 4th down & that clock management was the issue.

I disagree with everyone saying the last offensive series with the lead is playing not to lose. I understand i am in the minority here. CBJ made mistakes on gameday but that series isnt one of them. We were averaging almost 5 yards per attempt. We needed to run clock. UF's offense was a trainwreck. UF's defense is loaded especially against the pass. Our oline simply must be able to get a first down. Every coach i thought was worth a dang plays it the same way. Worst case scenario is we eat some clock and make them burn some timeouts. Then punt it away because our punter is a weapon and force them to go 60 yards in under 2 minutes. But, our defense collapsed on one play.

Are you really that hard headed? The loss on Sat had nothing to do with depth or youth. None! It was simply piss poor coaching and game mismanagement! You keep posting the exact same thing thread after thread. As I pointed out to you in another thread, it does not matter how well he recruits, builds depth etc because unless he changes the way coaches and manages these games he will never win here. Please tell us all what you have seen that indicates that he is capable of fixing it? Hell he won't even admit that they made mistakes Sat when it was out there for the whole world to see.

Man I love your optimism but it's bordering on delusional.

He also said to put the loss on his shoulders. I think he is owning it but deflecting at the same time.

Exactly. It's like telling your wife you're sorry her butt looks big in that dress you bought her. Technically, you are taking responsibility, but in reality, you aren't, and at the same time, you are just being insulting.

Just because it didn't end in a win doesn't necessarily mean he's wrong

Just because the scoreboard said Florida won doesn't mean they did.

Since the coaches coached well enough to win and the players played well enough to win, Tennessee won. Let Florida know that will ya?

Would like anyone who has any experience coaching and playing defense to comment on the following 3 frames:

I think the important frames may be missing. I think the QB had 6 seconds from the snap to find a receiver and the receiver had 6 seconds to get open. I wish our opponents would give Dobbs 6 seconds to execute a pass play. We might be deadly.

To be brutally honest, Jones is in the equation much more than some want to admit for the wrong reasons.

This has gotten way outside of a bunch of impatient VN posters taking shots. Sometimes the truth sucks.

How many 50+ yard field goals has the kid kicked before in games? I think better coaching would have avoided the situation of putting that much pressure on the kicker in the first place. Better game management and decisions would have not let Florida get close enough for a field goal to make a difference one way or another.

It's hard for a team to be good enough to overcome bad coaching.

I was keeping tabs on that and he never got a comfortable 4 - 5 seconds. He got maybe 2. Terrible OLINE coaching going on and these kids are all quality recruits. CBJ is not going to fire any coach he's taken in.

all you young grasshoppers who believed we would win 9-10 games were always living in a dream world. we ended last season on a high note because we played some awful teams. we are a better team than we were last year but still lack any off. line talent, qb. passing ability, and it looks like decent coaching is lacking also. 7-8 wins were always the realistic win total. we could and should have won the two games we lost, which is a big improvement over last year when okla took us to the woodshed and a fla. team with no qb talent won because we chocked again like this year.
