When you hold a position, and someone else is hired in to take your place and becomes your boss that is a demotion. Just because they gave him a raise and a new title doesn't change it.

In 2007 Steele was demoted from DC to position coach by Saban at Alabama. Then Saban promoted Smart. Then Steele took the job at Clemson in 2008.

Yes, steele was demoted by title and given more money. When you move from DC to LB/associate HC it's a demotion in title. Slap in the face IMO.
